I just called the closest school dental clinic and Lily had her first visit when she was 12 mths. They will now send out a letter to advise next appt.
I generally have to hold Lily to get at her molars but she is getting better. She knows that once Mummy is done she can have the toothbrush to suck on! She always asks for the brush when we are in the bathroom "teeth teeth!". Leah had her first dental nurse visit on her second birthday....we filled in a form at the 15month plunket check. She was then seen just before xmas and the dental nurse checked Joel then so that was 16 months.

We took Ollie to a paedeatric dentist when he was about 18/19months, and then again at around 2.5yr. He is now enrolled at the local dental clinic, and while we were there we got Lilia enrolled and she got Lilia up on the chair to have a look too (because L had just seen her brother do it she was OK with it - thank goodness!).

eden isnt even 2 and i think she has been twice.
but then she has older brothers who go... but the earlier you start going the better. when they are little they dont force the issue at all and they try not to stick things in their mouth, just have a looksie and get them familiar...

there is also a freebie with winnie the pooh - cant recall where we got it now...that is all about visit to the dentist etc....and a song fo kids. - might have been off a magazine actually!

Ella went to hers when she was about 18 months - 2 yrs - and all was good....no issues which was good to hear. Jack had his first visit at 1yr and all she did was talk to us and try and get Jack to talk and smile so she could see his teeth. He didn't hop into the chair until his visit at 2yrs.

Jack has always been happy to chw on his toothbrush but for the last year+ we have had trouble getting him to let us have a go as well. At one of our last Plunket visits they gave us a copy of the "Small Bites" DVD they out out, Jack loves it and there is a segment where a little boy lets his mum brush his teeth, so now he lets us brush his teeth like the boy on the DVD. We've got our first visit tomorrow. The notice of our appointment came completely out of the blue - I was thinking I was going to have to chase it up Plunket or your wellchild provider should have sent the referral through for you?

I also cannot get a finger/toothbrush into DD's mouth, but she will do it herself. I just give her the toothbrush with a tiny bit of baby toothpaste, and let her play with it in her mouth until she's 'finished' - normally about 10mins. Just wondering when Ava should have her first dental visit. She is 17 months old.

She HATES having her teeth brushed - it is virtually impossible - she clamps her mouth shut and gets absolutely hysterical so most days I barely get to clean them. I've tried brushing my teeth with her and singing and dancing - everything! But nothing works. Not sure how a dental visit will go then but I am starting to worry about her teeth.
