I dont understand why some kids dont have manners............its easy,dont use your manners you dont get!!! Everyone has always complimented me on how well mannered my children are........i feel proud but at the same time, everyone should have manners so it shouldnt be such a big thing that mine do cos it should be the norm

If that was happening infront of Kahtrell, I would have said something to those kids.....and taken him to the front...especially if he had been waiting awhile. It peeves me off when little kids think they own everything and act like that. i wouldnt have stood by either, especially if other kids were pushing him out of the way. If there had been someone "policing" it i would have gone up to them and said my son is next, he has been waiting a long time. If not then i too would have told ayone off for pusing in or pushing my son. oh and i have been known to take charge of an unruly queue before too!

oh and maybe teaching too than if he is at the front then he can go instead of waiting to be invited... i probably would have yelled at him, go on jake, your turn now! sometimes they dont know they can go even when they are in the front.

We had the same thing at Warriors over Wigram. I just said to Jack loudly that good boys wait their turn and only naughty children break the rules blah blah blah. Some kids and parents moved away when they heard me say it and went back to line up (probably helped that I had DH beside me in uniform). Then his daddy rewarded him by taking him behind the scenes and all the older kids were gutted. Heard one parent say 'well he is only little and listened so you can too'.

Stick to your guns - for us manners/respect are one of THE most important things we want to teach our kids when they're young as they were instilled in us from a young age and I find it very disturbing that kids don't have the same sort of respect these days.

Well done to Jake though 20 mins when all the other kids are pushing in is fantastic!

OOOOOHHHH I HATE THAT!!!! drives me nuts how you try and teach your children the right way and others couldnt give a rats about teaching their children the right way.........

unfortunately my patience wouldve got the better of me and I wouldve gone up the other children and spoken to them the same way and told that its rude to push in front and they need to wait their turn just like everyone else........I would say it no different to how i would say it my children........

But its hard aye, this sort of thing you have to deal with constantly

I have a situation where the school bus driver has forgotten to drop my son off (a rural school bus) twice now and neither time has he apologised to my destraught son. Well im not shy in coming forward in any aspect of life, so I would have explained loudly to Isabelle that those children were not using their manners because their Mummy and Daddy hadnt taught them how to behave in public and that she was being an extremely good girl for waiting her turn and how proud I was of her.

Hmm...that's a sticky one.
First of all, for your little man, and for you! What a good kid!

Perhaps have a talk to him about what happened.
Reassure him that he was a good boy for doing as he was told, and for being so polite.
And let him know that what the other kids were doing was wrong, but sometimes you have to be assertive in situations like that.
Him speaking up is great, perhaps teach him to elaborate and say "but I was here first, it's my turn next".

That's really tricky, I'll be watching this thread with interest!

We went to the armed forces/emergency open day on saturday. it was awesome and the kids had a ball, but i had a situation and I know rather than having "solved it", this kinda thing is going happen more and more. so what would you do?

Jake wanted to look inside a tank. There was a big queue. i told him he wouold have to wait nicely in line and then it would be his turn. so he did. but NO ONE at all, waited nicely. So he stood and stood while kid after kid pushed past him. he was standing right in the doorway, so it was too far for me to yell at kids, but not so far away that i couldn't see., Some kids behind him started pushing him and he turned around and said "hey, don't push me. i don't like it". and that was okay, but he stood for like 20 minutes,

When i mentioned it to my in-laws she said that I should have just said, oh well, you push in too. My gut feels like the whole "two wrong don't make a right", but then i also don't like to see him being taken advantage of. Cani also add that the parents of the pushy kids were standing and waiting, so most must have been fully aware they were being rude.
