You sound like you are doing a great job keep up the hard work

i was diagnosed after the 28wk polycose test, then following GTT test (both were high), the funny thing is my DH is a type1 diabetic so now were a diabetic household! Managed on diet alone until recently when they put me on metformin (just breakfast and dinner) as the insluin resistance was dropping further as buba is getting later into the pregnancy. My glucose readings are pretty spot on, i just get a bit sick of being on such a strict diet and the nutritionist has put me on 30g carbs per meal (equivilent to 2 slices sandwhich slice voguls bread).

My DH is on an insulin pump as he is a cyclist, but when he has a hypo he uses mentos mints (used to be jellybeans) there was a study out 2 years ago which showed that the mentos mints vs jellybeans got the glucose into the system faster and got the glucose levels back to norm quicker than the other lollies. So maybe you could try that?

I swim alot and i keep a little stash in a zip lock bag next to the pool with my water bottle, so if i feel it going low cause of the exercise i stop and pop some hehehe. Everyone gives you funny looks though

God it's hard enough being pregnant without the GD as well so well done all you ladies....

Mine were higher, and metformin was never even suggested. For me though, it didn't matter what I ate - for example, once I had a chicken breast for dinner with some other proteins and no carbs (I was on a fairly limited diet anyway because of fairly bad reflux), so technically my levels should have been ok, but nup! Up to 10!! This was before I started my insulin - we tried to control it with diet for a week first. My mum and 3 of my sisters got GD as well. I NEVER managed to get good levels after a meal, regardless of how many units I had injected.

Oh, and I took my insulin and blood sugar tester thing with me everywhere anyway - it sat in my bag.

(My biological father, my sister and my maternal grand mother)

I was tested all throughout childhood and my teens and the odd test during my 20's and my blood sugars where all fine, they did only did one test and the next week I was on insulin (4 times a day) and metformin (5 tabs a day). I am hypoing at least 5 times a week in the afternoons as my blood-sugars go way down even thou I have had my correct amount of carbs and insulin.

Personally I am finding it really hard as this has really put me off getting pregnant again as I cant enjoy my pregnancy, I am not enjoying it at all, I have to worry about how many carbs I have for breakfast, lunch and dinner and cant have any of the cravings i want.

When we go out i have to make sure i take my insulin, metformin and blood glucose machine just in case we are out longer than expected and end up having lunch.

Edited by SusyNZ
