    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=425">mum2paris</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 3207<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 21 July 2006 at 11:34am<br /><br />they can feel - midwives are absolutely amazing at being able to tell a back from a front from a hand and a foot - and once baby heads south their head gets engaged and the midwife can usually tell how deep it is into your pelvis and which way round it is too. - Its really interesting to feel another preggy ladies tummy and get to do the types of things a midwife does - i have had the opportunity a couple of times and you do sorta get an idea... but with my own tummy - i was never really any wiser!<img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> <br /><br />In the end they feel whether the back is outwards or to the side and can guess where baby is.... either way theres not much use taking a scan usually unless they are in some really weird position like breech, or lying transverse - cos other than that, baby is gonna come out - it just might take a little bit of time turning on the way out (OUCH!).]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=425">mum2paris</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 3207<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 20 July 2006 at 9:09pm<br /><br />yep - with Paris i only got the 20 week scan.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;if you request the 12 week nuchal fold scan then you can get it, or early scans to confirm dates or if there seem to be probs etc. <br /><br />Scans later in preg you only usually get to check position and size if there are any doubts as to baby's growth, or whether it will fit thru your pelvis or if there are med probs... otherwise - if you have an exceedingly normal pregnancy like i did with Paris - you only get 1.<br /><br />I had a 2nd with Ayja at 33 weeks cos my fundal height was going backwards... measured 28 weeks at that stage... only to find she too was just an averge little monkey.]]>

With my second child, my fundal height got to 2cm under average so I was sent in for a growth scan: all normal. <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> Then she flipped so I was sent for two more scans to see if she was breech (she kept flipping the right way for the scans on Friday and back to breech for Tuesday appointments lol).<br /><br />I had one more scan when I went into labour to confirm that she was posterior and as for the growth scans... well she was full term and 8lb, 4oz !! haha <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0"> ]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/member_profile.asp?PF=16243">stevie_88</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 3207<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 20 July 2006 at 11:44am<br /><br />I had a scan at 7 weeks to see if I was pregnant- UMM YEP PRETTY SURE I WAS! <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0"> Then at 16 weeks since I had bleeding, then at 18 weeks to see what the sex was then again at hmm... can't remember hahaha- something like 23-25 weeks or something like that anyways.<br />They did stick me on the machine last week to check his head circumference- since its been noted that it's rather large- GREAT... <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley3.gif" border="0"> <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley5.gif" border="0"> But they didn't take any still pictures to give to me, they took a few still pictures just to measure his head and that was it- they just got out the doppler again to check his heart rate. <br />I want another scan though and pictures I can keep- I would die to get one of them 3d scans but I don't know of anywhere close that do it since I'm about 3 hours north and south of a large hospital. And this little fellas being born in a country hospital- which has 1 birth every 8-14 days. So they like it when the mums want to stay longer- I'd just stay since they give you the best meals I've ever had in an hospital haha. Roast pork and CRACKLING!! My LMC has mentioned having at least one more for this pregnancy to see how big he is and check position (Andrew got his shoulder stuck) to determine if they'll need to induce before he gets too overdue. <br />Way back in the day with #1 (Sean) I only had the 20 week scan.  ]]>

I think one every 2 days. I was sick with pre-eclampsia so that may have been why I did. Usually you don't have one unless something is not right eg postition of baby eg breach. Your MW should let you know if you need one.]]>
