After always thinking i wouldn't want to do it, now i have the call-up I am actually quite keen and will be disappointed if i don't get picked on the day.

As long as it isn't anything nasty or messy involving kids / sexual assaults, i reckon it will be quiet interesting

I don't know for certain, but I would say no, as you have Catriona in childcare, anyway, because you're working. I have been called up for Jury Service. It says on the form that i can be reimbursed for child care.

Does anybody know whether this cover cases where you would be paying for child care anyway if you were working? DD is in daycare (it would be nice if i could get a week's charge back!)
