Yeah that's what I though Rianna....there's not a lot of summer clothing left in the shops now, and their winter temps are supposed to be the same as our summer, or pretty close. I agree with Stacey to get something that can last forever. Perhaps a NZ/kiwiana Baby Record Book that your sister can put all his milestones and some photo's into?

To be fair, Callum has only worn his ABs top when we've taken him to the pub to watch ABs games ..... so only 3 or 4 times max so far. It's too hot otherwise!

Having said that, being a kiwi living away from NZ makes you WANT to put your kid in kiwi gear a lot more. We received a really cool t-shirt with a tiki on the front and got so many comments when C wore it. I would not buy all black stuff as we we both like rugby and ended with the stuff and we have not used it either.

looks cute but not necessary what you end up using.

same with the buzzy bee stuff.

books are good for the baby or what about first cutley set with abc or something on it quite light weight to see and will last and is a great gift for a new baby something different.

I am not saying that all black stuff and buzzy bee stuff is not nice its just we got heaps of the stuff and wont use it.

Also from Nelson (but not really newborn) is books by a guy called Jahri Jah Ja. I love them and have bought about 6 for DS. There is one that is contrasting baby shapes called Kiwi Bub and also another cool one is ABC's for Kiwis.
I'm into NZ made (and so much Kiwana stuff is made in China these days) and the man self publishes them which I think is cool. I've seen them kiwi (I work at the Warehouse ) so might grab one...my sis is quite into her rugby.

In the pharmacy section/baby section at the warehouse tommee tippee have a range of rattles, bibs, sippy cups, plates etc that are black and white and say allblacks in training. Just bought the rattle for a friend in the US. Rattle was $7.99 bib 8.99 and I think something was 12.99 so not too expensive. ooh Townsville, we live 3 hours south of there....
I have found that because we have the air con on a lot, having some warmer clothes are good for when bubs feels cool. Plus of course there is the odd cool night in winter ...hehe
I have to say that even tho I brought bubs some nz clothes ie all blacks outfit and buzzy bee one, Liam hasn't worn them as often as I imagined....I guess there are so many other cuter clothes IYKWIM.
We do have a cute as lamb cuddly, lovely and soft, has one of those blankets attached and is kind of kiwi (esp as far as aussies are concerned haha).

If you are creative at all, how about painting a canvas or 2 or 3 small ones with a buzzy bee and other kiwiana kind of things on it, or just boyish stuff. They are very light and can be wrapped in bubble wrap to post. I'm gonna go against the grain and I wouldn't do the whole kiwiana thing. I think presents that people can keep rather than grow out of is better.

One of the coolest things MIL got us was a jigsaw name for Daniel. We received some gorgeous kiwiana gear when C was born, and an obligatory All Blacks jersey of course

We also received a Buzzy Bee, quite a few different Hairy Maclary books (and others by Lynley Dodd) and while we were home we bought other books that remind me of NZ too - My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes and the Witch in the Cherry Tree.

One thing I *wish* we'd received (and I'm still looking for) is a CD of children's songs sung by kiwi kids! I got buzzy bee baby clothes from my MIL - a onesie, booties, etc really cute for someone overseas. It came in a boxed set easy for posting.
Or hunt out some All Blacks onesies I've seen some at the warehouse.

Hi ladies, I'm just looking for ideas for a present for a newborn boy. Our budget is very tight, so it restricts things! I would like to get something a little different, if possible, but am stuck for ideas - it also needs to travel well. It is for my sister's little boy who is due anyday, they live in Aus and they're in Townsville - so hot! Which means the majority of our winter clothes wouldn't suit their climate.
