Apparently 1st trimester can be a bit rough with all the hormones up and down, 2nd trimester calms down a tad and then works up again in the 3rd!! Anyway all sorted now.

Cheers

The reason I asked is that I am around 6 weeks pregnant now. Last couple of nights I have been back to waking to pee hundreds of times and super thirsty so started checking sugars before and after again as I did with 1st pregnancy. (1st pregnancy was on inslulin to manage sugars). and sure enough my fastings are sitting around 6.5 and 2 hours after a meal at 9-10 which I think from memory was too high!

My GTT after DD was born wasd normal and I have had normal random sugars in the last 9 months since she was born so am pretty sure all this has just started again since I got pregnant again. However I was under the impression (wrongly obviously!) that GD didn't start until the 2nd or 3rd trimester!

Guess will try and see the doc next week.

Thanks for your help.

My diabetes educator has me at high risk for next pregnancy, because my GTT after the girls were born has shown I am only just slightly under the level to be classed as having type 2 diabetes (0.1 under the level), so I have to monitor my blood sugars before we TTC #3 and try to get them down a little before I actually get pg. The reason for this is mainly because my GD was pretty random, and it couldn't be controlled by diet and exercise, and wasn't doing your typical rises, and the insulin jabs each day were pretty nasty...so I need to avoid an early onset of GD.

Midwife said they arent too sure when to test so thats why I did it a second time just incase. I guess if you had insulin last time then they may pick it up earlier as both times I avoided having insulin.

And I had the GTT test again 6 weeks after baby and got the all clear - but of cause much more high risk than ever.

Second time round my midwife sent me for a glucose tst earlier at around 25 weeks i think it was and it came back positive and I started on insulin after a couple of weeks when it was apparent that it couldnt be controlled by diet.

good luck!
