I say if you don't mind people staying in your house while you're not there, go for it! Just be careful who you get in.
I'm trying to convince my inlaws to rent their bach at Waiheke, they would make a killing. We are marketing it towards a large older group coming from the UK so that we will get the most return and can hopefully be more reassured that they are going to look after the place. That's what makes it difficult about arranging it ourselves as it is hard to work out where to advertise to attract that type of demographic and we would need to ask for references and draw up a contract and arrange for someone to be a contact here for them etc.

I'd go for it.

At Xmas we rented a private house. They had one bedroom locked with their personals in it and had one of the kitchen cupboards locked as well.

Worked out well. If you're thinking about it, decide on a price (make it worth your while) and advertise for a week or two now. If you get bookings, it's worth it. I reckon you should definitely consider it - especially if you have somewhere to stay at the time (hopefully free) . Yes, we are doing this. We're in ChCh and also have a 4 bedroom house so reckon we could get a fair amount for it. We are going to go to Scotland for that time to see DH's family so we will also have free accommodation plus I would rather get out of NZ while the rugby is on.

I have been looking into it recently and I think it will be easier to do it through an agency rather than independently. Looking at holiday homes online, we'd leave linen, blankets, towels, jug, toaster, basics of coffee tea and sugar here but empty out pantry/fridge and that...

Would only have beds, table/chairs, couch, tv and basics in the house... To rent out our house for the Rugby World Cup?
We live in Invercargill, we have Scotland vs ???. And also Argentina vs ??? playing down here..

We have a 4 bedroom house, one bathroom, one block from the rugby stadium, and about 4 blocks from central town. About a 10min drive to the airport, have Burger King within a 3min walk, and most restaurants in town about a 10min walk. Offstreet parking for 2/3 cars. (plus 2 car garage if we emptied it out?)

I thought if we did, we could borrow beds, and have pretty much a queen and a single in each room, and a cot in one of them aswell... (they are BIG bedrooms so this wouldn't be a squish up)

Would it appeal to out-of towners? We are thinking that even people coming from Scotland etc, we are SO central that it might appeal?

We'd have to move out obviously, that doesn't worry us. We'll find somewhere to stay! And would just pack up our stuff with us (it wouldn't take that long to do! Clothes photos empty drawers etc)

What do you think? Worth considering or a waste of time? I recon Invercargill will book out.
