I mean they are there to help... Often when they raise concerns about some area of development all will turn out to be fine, but IMO it is much better to be aware and be able to monitor the situation. Better safe than sorry I say...

In regards to your wee boy Hope I think it sounds like he is developing nicely and that you have nothing to be concerned about at this point. In saying that I would follow up with the Dr as plunket suggested... Does he have a genetic predisposition to having a big head? As elfsmum mentioned this seems to often be the cause ...

Author: Hope
Subject: 32804
Posted: 12 April 2010 at 3:13pm

Hi there,

I took my 1 year, 1 week old to plunket today and the nurse was concerned about his head size, it is off the chart! He has always had a large head, even in utero, however he is a big boy to go with it. The nurse recommended I go to the doc to get it checked out, which I will do but am interested if anyone else has kids with big heads.

The nurse was pleased with all other aspects of my son's development, he crawls, cruises, has about 15 words, is very confident and social. He understands a lot of words and phrases (eg, let's go, bye bye, no, kiss, hug). He's not walking yet but doesn't seem far off it. I did a google search and found that a big head can be a sign of autism but none of his other characteristics seem to indicate autism - he has been smiling since 3 weeks old, constantly babbles / talks and as I mentioned, is very social.

Still I can't help worrying a little ..... can anyone reassure me?

Edited by Hope
