Yup, you have to do your white in hot water otherwise they do go yuk. There should be a button to adjust the temp, take it as high as it will go - ours goes to 95 degrees (100 is boiling point). You can also add some nappysan with your washing powder to get them extra white.

I was told use a cup of dishwasher powder and a hot wash to give the washing machine a clean every now and then. Not sure if this applies to front-loaders but a technician that was once looking at my Mum's machine told her that they need a hot-wash every now and then just to help clean out the pipes etc which are more likely to gunk up with cold-washes that are most popular these days.

Is it bad that I didn't know that the numbers were degrees? I just looked, and realised it has the wee o degrees sign.. I usually wash on 30.

Just put a small load of whites on, that I'd been soaking, and put them on 90 (maybe overkill but oh well) with a 3/4 scoop of washing powder (i usually only use 1/2) so will see how that turns out..

Also just opened a new box of washing powder, and realised the old stuff was top loader stuff, dunno if that'd make a difference aswell? But the new stuff is front loader stuff so should be sweet...

So my friend google told me that if you don't wash whites on a hot enough cycle they will eventually turn grey??? Our front loader heats its own water, I always adjust the temp down to 40 degrees from 60, but am going to try washing my whites on 60 as I have the same problem as you, wish me luck!!

Can I still put vinegar in? Could it go in the thing in the top where the powder goes? It won't spill out everywhere? Oh, its a front loader- I dunno if that makes any difference?

The seals in the front get smelly, I wash them... What else do I have to wash?? Theres a filter in the back somewhere right? I might get DH to do that (I can't imagine it'll be pretty?)

I actually don't know if our washing machine does a hot wash?? (OMG i sound like such a retard!) Lol. I'm pretty sure its only hooked up to cold water? I've never noticed if it heats the water? Do they do that themselves???

Have you cleaned the washing machine? Maybe do a hot wash with towels or something if you don't already. Recently my washing machine got really stinky so I filled it with hot water and paused it then added a few cups of white vinegar and a cup of baking soda and let it soak overnight. Then let the machine run through its normal cycle the next morning. So, I have NO idea why but my washing machine is making my whites go a bluey tint/grey colour.. Ggrr! So annoying, it doesn't seem to make any difference what type of washing powder I use! It's really starting to annoy me, I can't even have any nice white singlets as they go all yukky! Everything starts to look old really quickly!!
I noticed the same thing happening last winter at my MIL's house- she has the same washing machine but a step up from this one (the newer model?).. But then we went back home to another washing machine, a top loader and had no problems. Pretty sure its not the water as our other place was just round the corner.. And its happened in this washing machine and MILs one (and she lives out of town!)

I really wanna be able to KEEP my whites, white! Especially with a baby on the way, we would like to keep nice stuff nice! And I'm using cloth nappies, so don't want the white ones going all yukky!

Does anyone have any suggestions at to what we can do? We can't buy a new washing machine-way out of our budget! Is there any tips/tricks on what I can do?

My Mum doesn't know what I can do either.. Its just starting to wear me down, I don't wanna have to hand wash everything!
