We flew to Wellington when H was 12 weeks and no taxi company would provide a carseat, apparently they are exempt from the law and you can just have bub on your lap.

We took his capsule with us, I think we could take up to 2 pieces and so took the buggy and capsule. We also asked the hotel to provide a portacot which was free of charge but take some of your own linen - this has been a bit hit and miss in my experience. Also, with bub only a few weeks old, he can sleep in the buggy?

Ummm... take some washing powder and travel clothes lines if you need to wash his clothes quickly and have no access to washing machine.

To be honest, travelling with a tiny baby is much easier than with an older one!

I know if you're flying with Air NZ you can take a car seat and pram for free on flights and baby gets the full baggage limit too (only because Im flying with them next week). If your getting a taxi from the airport you should be able to request a carseat (perhaps request one suitable for a NB).
Bummer, if you were here earlier I would have happily lent you our bassinet, pram and anything else we have that didnt need yet, but hopefully my bub will be here by then!
The hotel should have a portacot that you can use, as someone has said. Def give them a call to see.
And def give your airline a call to see how many pieces bubs gets, I had it in my head they got 2 pc free, but who knows with all the airlines cutting costs...

Bassinet We had one of these for Harper which we took everywhere for him to sleep in up until he was about 6 months, he had most of his day sleeps at home in there also. It's fantastic and very light weight. You can get them from KMart. Baby on the Move are great we use them when we went to Hamilton. I highly reccomend baby on the move for stuff! Totally ring the hotel about a portacot if your baby will be in a cot at home, if he's going to be in a bassinet, then hire a bassinet from baby on the move! Most airlines will let you take 2 extra pieces of baby equipment free of charge.

Check with the hotel about the cot but I 2nd the idea of a hammock - they're fantastic and we used to 'hang Dan' in the wardrobe! If you can't take things on the plane becasue of extra give baby on the move a ring. You will be able to do short term hire on pretty much everything you will need. Portacot, pram, carseat etc. You might find hiring everything will work out cheaper/easier.

I second the sling/wrap/carrier idea. You might have a friend you can borrow one off. MIL flew up here in January and she had to pay extra for her golf bag as that was in addition to her suitcase. So might be best to ring the airline first and see how much stuff you can take.

The hotel will likely have a portacot and blankets for you to use but check. You might be best to hire anything you need in Wellington, ven hiring a hammock and stand if you don't want to use the hotel portacot as some of them are well used. Also maybe look into buying or hiring a sling/carrier rather than taking the pushchair as it will take up less room and I am sure that your baby will be nice and light at that stage

I really need so help please...

Me and my partner are off to Lower Hutt in Wellington in around 6 weeks time, only just got told about it. Our baby boy will be around 5-6 weeks old then and we will be staying in a hotel up there for 2 weeks, maybe coming home each weekend.. not too sure yet. Im wanting to know what stuff i would take for the baby up there, like a portacot to sleep in ? would i take our 4 wheeler pram ? Im also wanting to make this as cheap as possible for us on the plane aswell, i gather it will cost abit We dont know anyone in wellington and wont be taking our car or anything up with us, just our clothes.
