I had to take him off my breast and burp him a couple of times during the feed as he was really uncomfortable (kept crying, wriggling and bringing up his knees - which is aparantly a sign they have a sore tummy.)<br /><br />People have also told me to stay away from lettuce and green veges.<br /><br />Erin]]>

Jo has had four other kids so had tried everything to no avail. I mentioned to her about Lactose Intolerance as I had this when I was a baby.<br /><br />Ended up taking her to a Doctor as a precaution who did nothing ...then to a Specialist and did find  was Lactose Intolerant. She went onto Soya milk and came right as rain within a couple of days. ]]>

It seemed to give her some interim relief and meant she could fit more in her little belly and not have such violent wind at the end.<br /><br />I also used the technique Jax described. Looks kinda like you are strangling babe but works a treat!!<br /><br />Good luck!]]>

Can't say whether it works - we still occassionally have problems with Nerissa bringing up wind but it may be worth a go...]]>

Another burping technique that seems awkward but has worked quite well for me on occasion, is sitting her up (and supporting her of course) on her bum, then with a hand around her chin, leaning her forward and straightening her back. After a few rubs, I'd lie her back, and then lean her forward and 'straighten' again, and eventually a wonderful wee belch would come out if she needed it. <br /><br />Good luck !]]>

That's what was suggested to me in hospital when Erin got gassy, and so we were able to fix it ASAP. That, and if gripe water works for you, I wouldn't worry about using it too much !]]>

I don't use it very often only when I know that Nerissa is really bad - it does seem to work and she either does a big burb or fart after her feed.]]>

Old fashioned stuff, but stuff that works.  My step-mum was the "burper" in our family and would spend an hour at a time burping Taine - while I slept hehehe.]]>

We have tried the gripe water (alcohol free) but I don't want to give that to her at each feed.  I always thought it was just bottle fed babies that had gas/colic probs?!?  Any suggestions on what I could do to prevent her getting so gassy would be great <img border="0" src="https://www.ohbaby.co.nz/forum/smileys/smiley10.gif" border="0"> ]]>
