My preferred method of getting "tough" wind up if all else failed...is to lie them on a soft mat or the bed for a few mins then slowly lift straight up so that their little bodies are straight up and down. We used to lay joey face down on our arm and carry him around for hours rubbing his back. i remembered earlier how to ease gabriels wind you used to have to give him a teasopoon of cooled boiled water. it was the only thing that worked for him.

Kelly - I became lactose intolerant when I was pregnant and haven't changed back to normal milk yet, but I'll definitely ask my MW about it.

Hi
I use Jax technique too, also we were told to dip Cameron (like dancing) where his head is upside down a couple of times and that works quite well.

Also I had coleslaw the other day and that seemed to cause gas in Cameron. I had to take him off my breast and burp him a couple of times during the feed as he was really uncomfortable (kept crying, wriggling and bringing up his knees - which is aparantly a sign they have a sore tummy.)

People have also told me to stay away from lettuce and green veges.

As a long shot but could be a possibility?

My friend Jos little girl Lily had chronic gas and explosion pos and would cry a lot. Jo has had four other kids so had tried everything to no avail. I mentioned to her about Lactose Intolerance as I had this when I was a baby.

Ended up taking her to a Doctor as a precaution who did nothing ...then to a Specialist and did find was Lactose Intolerant. My midwife advised me on a way to make sure Han wasn't getting too windy.
She said to take Han off the breast (each feed) after 2 minutes and give her a quick burp and then back on. It seemed to give her some interim relief and meant she could fit more in her little belly and not have such violent wind at the end.

I also used the technique Jax described. Looks kinda like you are strangling babe but works a treat!!

Zaara had gas too but perhaps not as bad as Caitlin...I used Gripe Water too and often...and Zaara seemed quite happy with that. I also use to do the leg to tummy exercise with her every day ...may be thats why she wasnt too bad with gas.....

It could be what you are eating too....I couldnt help it...I had to eat curry every day...but keep giving her Gripe Water......

The other thing my midwife suggested was to drink Weleda Nursing Tea (I am drinking it to help with supply) but it also helps with the babies digestive system. At one point I was gulping down the orange juice, and think it might have given Erin mild diahorrhea, so anything with lots of fibre? Mind you, I've been chowing down on prunes to counteract the iron tablets I've had to continue taking, and they don't seem to have affected her.

That reminds me ! Another burping technique that seems awkward but has worked quite well for me on occasion, is sitting her up (and supporting her of course) on her bum, then with a hand around her chin, leaning her forward and straightening her back. After a few rubs, I'd lie her back, and then lean her forward and 'straighten' again, and eventually a wonderful wee belch would come out if she needed it.

The other thing it might pay to do Toni is get your midwife to check your latching at her next home visit, as Caitlin might be taking in too much air? That's what was suggested to me in hospital when Erin got gassy, and so we were able to fix it ASAP. We had gripe water with Taine and used it after every feed for about three or four days - and then the problem seemed to right itself to tell thye truth.
also, mums and nanas can have some good advice re this. Old fashioned stuff, but stuff that works. Hey ladies
I need a bit of advice - my poor lil' girl has been suffering with gas, so bad that she cries out when she farts and burps (which was funny at first, but things aren't as funny at 3am). We have tried the gripe water (alcohol free) but I don't want to give that to her at each feed. I always thought it was just bottle fed babies that had gas/colic probs?!?
