The most popular seems to involve a hot flannel whilst other include an oil as lubricant and some just the support of a hand. The idea is that it reduces the risk of tearing.

Is this something that all MWs do or do I have to ask? Could she possibly say no? Also, what sort of oil should I use? Almond oil? Evening primrose? Or just plain old KY? Or is it supplied?
