I've discovered now that unwrapping her to wake her up after a sleep has it's own downside, with her arms free and Erin starting to learn how to move them independently, instead of falling asleep she plays or pokes my breast half the time instead of drinking !

Not sure if much help....

But I would lie Paige down when she first got up and take off half her clothes and have a wee play. She would have a good kick..huge STRETCH and fart out any excess gas that did not get burped up from the last feed then she had built up a little appetite and the feed would be over in 15 minutes.

(Mum is a Karitane nurse and said if they still have a little wind in their tums from a previous feed they can get a pain down low when they start feeding cause it moves the wind(get it...kind of makes sense)

Maybe that could help.


Paige was a sleepy baby and was always falling asleep at the breast. I used to have to strip her off to next to nothing to wake her up!!! Sounds like our girls are on the same schedule - maybe they're sneeking out together and going trawling for boys?!?!

We had the same issues with the fussing - I found that feeding Caitlin laying down in bed was best for her - she also had less gas issues after the feed too which would suggest gulping and fast let down. With her gas issues and her heart breaking crying I was willing to give anything a go and found that if she didn't settle well into that particular feed then we would change positions - every feed is different for us.

We had a pooper of a night last night though, down at 11:15pm ish (which is usual), but up again at 3am, then 7:30am, which we haven't done for aaaaages - and I'm feeling shattered. Tried to go back for some more zzz's after the 7:30am feed, but don't think I managed much. Jax she may be fussing after 3-4 minutes cos she has got to the hindmilk and she needs to suck harder to get it... Jax re the wrapping thing... Quinn was always wrapped but I adapted it so I could get to his feet, ie, blanket wrapped tightly around him but instead of being tucked under his feet it was just left hanging (not so his feet were in the open but so that you could reach them if you had to) Does that make any sense? Should I just go back to bed?

Does she wake if you tickle her ear? My midwife had a magic trick that used to always wakehim but I can't remember what it was, maybe ear tickling?

Hehehe sorry I shouldn't laugh, knowing my luck, she'll start snoring ! LOL But she only makes the odd random noise during the night while she's asleep, not counting her waking up noises. Anna - I'm starting to think now that maybe having her wrapped up most of the time when she's feeding (although not 100%) might have to change, so that I have more mechanisms for waking her up available to me? But then that flows on to the whole thing of me being a bit stuck on her feeding to sleep. Argh.

Yeah I might try a different position soon if it carries on for too much longer (currently using the 'football hold'). The thing is, she doesn't seem to start fussing much until 3-4 minutes in, so not sure if that's still related to let down? I reckon she does gulp a bit, but seems to settle into a good rhythm eventually.

And I'm honestly not picking on your spelling (seriously! LOL)... but do you mean snoring, as in while they sleep, or snorting? She doesn't snore, but sometimes snorts... only very occasionally though. We get the hiccups too, but they seem to solve themselves.

Quinn was the same, fussing at the breast, both sides. I think it was when mymilk supply finally go sorted and it used to come out with such force. I was told to express just the tiniest of bits before feeding him, that way it didn't shoot out and hit him in the back of the throat!?

ohhhhhhh geez im not going to comment this sounds like Jayde was at the start of her reflux at 3 weeks but there was other stuff as well like the snoring and the gagging and the coughing and the hiccups.

Where is the manual when you need it aye. If you think it might be your letdown try feeding her with you lying on your back and her accross your tummy. I never put Hannah to bed asleep so it was never a problem. What about getting her dressed again afterwards ? Would that wake her much ? Han used to fall asleep too.. I ended up feeding her in just her singlet so she was a bit cooler, and really making sure she was wide awake first. Oh and I would also have to move her arms and legs, or blow on her to keep her feeding. The only thing is she likes to fall asleep at the breast and waking her up is a problem LOL Which is why we break the feed up with the nappy change.

Zaara would latch on suck suck then do a cry/chock and cry and the latch on....I realised that it was because my milk came on fast and she could not cope with flow. Eventually she did cope.....so yes Zaara did fuss a bit when she was really little!

Just do it and see what happens! She will get used to a new routine pretty quickly. Hannah used to fuss when feeding if she wasnt hungry, thats where I found a routine helped so I knew she would be hungry. She was a real monkey on one side and I had no end of trouble and had to play around with positions - is it just one side or both? For the last couple of days Erin has decided she wants to fuss at the breast, and sort of half cry / squeal and come off, then on again, then off... you get the drift. She does eventually settle, and again I don't think it's wind - maybe it's the flow of my milk ? I still seem to have enough in there, but maybe it comes out too fast or too slow... I don't know really, anyone else have a babe that fusses at the boob? Any advice? LOL
