Also pays to check if it is just merino or merino with something added...some are 100% merino.
When I was looking, this was the only place I could find any! Seemed really weird to me coz it is such nice material and great for making things. I got some nice cream which is quite light but perfect for making singlets with...and it still smelt like the sheep lol!
Where is levene??

Also Global Fabrics apparently has some. I think both around 20ish a metre?? And a good weight.
I got some from Fabric warehouse at $8 a metre, but its really really thin, I wouldn't think it would be the right weight for sleeping bags. Although they did have some other weights for $12ish a metre. Might be worth a look if you are heading into wellington already.

In Lower Hutt, you should look at Levene and in Auckland at Designer Textiles. Top quality merino of varying thicknesses for $12-15 a metre which makes it waaaaay more affordable than a bought one. Check out TNN for more info about making them (search the threads for ones like this and this for more info

I have read on forums over here in aussie that some people used more of a muslin on the inside for summer babies...but at the same time if baby would have blankets over normally in summer then merino is prob a good choice?

Oh and the pattern I used was a sized one and I made a 12 month size, and added extra domes/poppers so I could make it more snug for my little boy...that way there is loads of time for him to grow into it!

ETA: and it was easy to make, the most annoying part was the cutting out of the material...volume=annoying haha!

Edited by TaliP
