Hey.. Without reading all the other posts..

You wont be able to do a nuisance call trace, because the number is originating from overseas. While the will except the four examples (your phone company i mean) they will not be able to stop them. I do call traces at work, and we have 1300 numbers come up a lot. It is either international marketing, or it is scam artists. We have a list of confirmed scam numbers at work.

This is an automated person on the other end who goes "Goodbye" after several seconds.

I worked in a call centre and know about the auto dial. A lot of telemarketers use autodialling software - so the computer dials the number and the call just "appears" in the operators headset. If you walk away from your desk, or havent got your headset on and you are still logged into your software and "open" then the call will still go to yoru headset, but to the person that answers it would sound like no one was there. Does that make sense?

Not from a 1300 number but I was getting "nuisance" calls like that a few months back on my mobile, at all times of the day. When I answered there would be nothing and then a hang up. Eventually I shouted down the phone that I was going to report them to the police for harssment and someone FINALLY spoke up. It was the BANK trying to contact DH but because a woman was answering the phone they just hung up IDIOTS.

It's definately an Aussie number, as I'm having a issue with a rental car company at the moment from a holiday we had at the beginning of May and all their correspondence advise me to call their 1300 number, which I can't as I'm here in NZ (freaking idiots).
We've also had calls from other numbers that it's silent to start with, then a foreign person trying to give me a "free" holiday etc. We have caller I.D. and don't answer if it's an "odd" number now.

When you pick up there is silence, the last 2 times they've called I've hung on the phone and eventually it goes "goodbye" in an automated voice...

Going to ring our phone company and see what they have to say... It's apparently an Aussie number. You should be able to do a nuisance phone call enquiry thingee (that was real well worded huh) with your phone supplier.

I can't remember what the number was but a while ago we kept on getting calls from a strange number with no one on the other end, they even phoned at 11 at night a couple of times which was really annoying. I have heard that often call centres (?ones where they want to sell you things) have lots of numbers ringing and then when you answer it knows someone is home and if they are on another line they know to ring back later! Anyone know where they come from??

We keep getting calls from a 1300 number but when we pick up no one is on the other end, this has been going on for 3 days and is driving us nuts!! They call about 3-4 times a day.

We only know it's a 1300 number as we have a type of caller ID where you dial a certain code and for .20c it tells you the number iygwim.
