I bought a red ceramic lamp from the warehouse with a plain red shade for DS's room. I covered the lampshade with some of he fabric I used in his bedding, by just wrapping it around the shade and using a hot glue gun to attach it at the top and the bottom of the shade. Bunnings have some lamps for $10. They are brown ceramic with a shade. I think they have the cord switch down low. You could do a camoflage theme with them with a bit of khaki paint.

I think the key to the flammable issue is to use a low wattage bulb. Most lamps say 60w or below and I think this is due to the fire safety issue.
