My friend txtd tonight... she has sorted a carseat and can borrow a portacot + stroller. wooo hooo.

When I travel with DS, I have just one bag for us both, and its always packed so nicely when we leave, but as the day goes on it gets in more and more of a mess... So its handy to take a plastic bag (or recyclable bag) to chuck stuff in for extra bag space. and when on a plane, you have to have 1 carry on per person, but you can carry off as many as you like.
I'm sure there are shops where you're going, so if you forget a few small things, its a good excuse to go shopping

At 16 months no need to be worried, she'll find it fascinating and its not too long to sit still - books are good and just drink and snacks.

You can't take buggies to the gate (or we have never been allowed) on domestic flights so maybe a sling or does she walk?

It really is fine

I think most airlines will let you take two baby related items in addition to any luggage allowance - so portacot, pram, carseat etc.  Even when we were flying Jetstar Light we were still able to take two items in addition to our luggage.  Just check what your ticket details say.  I've found the airlines to be quite generous (and helpful).  Some will make you check in your umbrella pram, but give you one of theirs to use while you make your way to the departure lounge. 

You'll be just fine.

Thanks girls, I have no idea why I was worried it seems so straight forward (listening to you pros anyway )
My friend is going to investigate borrowing a carseat so that would be great. Will take an umbrella type stroller.
Can you take a portacot too?
I was just going to have Kate sleep in a single bed with her safety sleep

Flying with babies is no big deal so don't stress hun

Like the others have said, you can take what you want pretty much for them....for free. I flew with Clodagh by myself and took carseat, Mountain buggy, portable cot plus of course suitcase etc. I just BF her on take off and landing and the rest of the time she just had a good look around and stood on my lap to look at the ppl behind us lol.

If you need a hand then just ask. People and staff are only too happy to help. Good luck!

I've taken H on a few flights, always with Air NZ.

Main things for us:

Make sure flight is not over sleep time (he won't sleep unless in a cot/pram).
Have a really well packed nappy bag.
Give her a drink/BF/bottle on take off and landing.
Don't try and spoon feed on the plane or airport - far too exciting - have finger food instead.
Have a few fave toys on hand or whatever she really likes in case she gets upset.
A decent baby carrier unless she is a good walker.
Luggage - we always take the buggy and the carseat with us, at check in you can ask to have them put in big plastic bags which helps protect them.

Is it just you and Kate, Ang? Don't forget that Kate has her own baggage allowance (checked on luggage and carry-on), but in saying that, I found just one carry-on is best if you're the only one going on with her.
Keep the carry-on bag under the seat in front of you rather than putting it into the overhead cabin - better access!
If you can get her to sleep for at least half of it, it really helps! And have a selection of toys or books that you can use to distract her if she starts getting antsy.
Campbell got given a Chupachup lollipop (his first!) just before descent when we flew back from Wellington a few weeks ago - even if he didn't need it for his ears, it really helped to distract him from wanting to move around.

We live in Invercargill - beaut day today. 

When we've taken Brooke on the plane we have let her used her dummy that she normally only has a bed time.  We got an attachment for it so that it didn't fall onto the floor.  It helped Brooke equalise her ears on takeoff and landing. 

The first time we flew with Brooke she was about 9 mths old - she didn't even realise she was flying - she spent most of the time pulling silly faces at all the passengers around us! 

Just take a few essentials depending on how long you are going to be on the plane.  Some light snacks, a bottle perhaps, spare nappies, wipes, and maybe a spare top incase you have a burpy baby.    Check out what your airline will allow with regards to strollers, portacots etc - we were surprised at how much luggage we could take.

Well you will need a car seat.

Make sure you have a well packed nappy bag to take on the plane with you, wipes, toys, food, nappies.

Do you have a sling or something that you could use to carry her on board.

She might surprise you and sleep the whole way down!

Hey girls,
I know there are probably about 20 thousand threads on taking a baby on a plane for a domestic flight but I can't find them.

I'm kind of worried now... I sponstaniously booked a flight my 16mth old daughter and I to fly to Invercargil!! The only trouble is HOW THE HELL AM I GOING TO COPE?
We are down for 4 days and I have a friend we are staying with but what do I need to organise/take/think about??????
