I went to my GP after nearly two years and he said "If you're not pregnant in two months come back and see me." At 36 I was told in can take up to 1 year to conceive it took 13 months, and it takes longer as you get older. 
You can always get a blood test done to confirm your FSH and LH levels.

The main reason they ask older women to seek help after 6 months, is you don't have a lot of time if you do need assistance, and public funding for IVF isn't available once your 40.

It took up 3yrs for us to successfully have DS2.

You can get some blood tests done & a sperm count. Also are you charting you cycle & doing your temp. Do you use OPK's?

Agree with ooligator (cool name ), since you have been trying over 6 mths, would recommend seeing your GP or going straight to F+ or FA to get the ball rolling as can take a while.    When I was early 30's, my dr referred us after 6 mths and it took ages to see somone. I'm 36 now and going to do the same this time after 6 mths of trying for #2.

I'm pretty sure the funding you can get reduces at 40? We fell with DS on the second month.
This time round it's taking forever - so depressing.
I'm 34 and have talked to my GP about it. She said not to worry (yet).

In your shoes I wouldn't ness be worried but I *would* be going to my GP at the very least to ask for a referral to FA. Or just go straight to them. We're ttc #2, and at 36, times not on my side. The general thought is if you're over 35, and have been ttc for 6+ months, and not yet conceived, you can be referred for further fertility investigation. It took us 18months to conceive this baby (I'm 35), whereas my other two were conceived straight away... we were in the process of getting help from a fertility specialist when I got preggo... It can be quite a long process so there is no harm in seeing ya GP and getting the initial blood tests to get things moving incase you do need help... We've been trying since November to conceive #2 - with no luck. Should I be worried yet? It took no time at all to conceive DS!. And I will be 40 at the end of the year, so I don't want to waste time.
