Author: Richie
Subject: 34658
Posted: 16 July 2010 at 12:04pm

I had a lot of egg/lettuce sammies when I was preg. There is a bakery down the road from my work who let me ring half an hour before my lunch break and place an order and they'd make it fresh for me cause they knew how important it was for me to have freshly made food They would also make me hot chicken rolls. Again, they would cook it for me just before I went to pick it up mmmmm
Also made myself homemade vege pizzas which were yummy, or tuna wraps and things like that. And a lot of fruit and yoghurts.
I really missed Subway (which was so hard to stay away from cause it was only a few doors down from my work so I was tempted every day) and also sushi cause I love it but it just wasn't worth the risk. My MW told me that the only 'safe' take aways are McDonalds and F&C's, mainly cause it's all deep fried and no nasty bugs can survive at the temperature the food gets fried at. I was happy with that tho, they are my fav takeaways (other than sushi and subway lol). During my first trimester - I ate a lot of double cheeseburgers and fries!!!
I found it hard sticking to 'the rules' but it's funny cause since having Isla, I haven't really gone back to eating what I did before I got UTD so if I were to get pregnant again, I wouldn't really have to change my diet at all.

Seriously, what you eat is your concern, and why follow recommendations if you don't agree with them?? For my part, I'm pretty comfy that there's good reason for most of the suggested restrictions, and am happy to follow them. Everyone's different, though, you really don't have to. I'm all for doing something because you believe it's the right thing, not because you think you'll be judged for not doing so.

I miss sushi... So I ended up at McD's anyway. How annoying. I usually just try to make the best possible choice at somewhere like McDs so at least I know it's hot and safe. I have had to sort of give in on the healthy thing a bit and just go for what I can trust. As long as you are being healthy the rest of the time if you end up having to eat fish and chips or McDs I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Pasta bake with some tuna or mince in it, with salad on the side can be sooo good and cheap. I didn't eat much pasta before!

Also we usually have meat like steak or chicken, or fish (from a box I don't like to risk fresh), salad (which I wash and make myself) and a carb like potatoes, wedges or a pasta snack type thing. I also make bologneise, chilli con carne, stir fries, home made pizza with lots of veges, etc. If my meal is a bit carb heavy eg pasta or pizza I make sure to put lots of veges in it, or have lots of salad. I also make a curry with rice sometimes, there are some easy mixes or sauces to get if you don't want to take too much time.

Another nice Saturday night dinner is burritos, just get tortillas, salad and fry up some mince and beans or chicken, roll it all up with a bit of cheese and sour cream and it's yummmmm.

I have gone off things like steamed broccoli and caultiflower with meals while Ive been pregnant which is why I do the salads but if you can stomach them they are good too.

Edited by mrsh101

Sometimes I have a cup of soup with my roll which is nice. I also buy from time to time ready made soups and pasta meals to heat up in the microwave at work which can be really nice. Also some of the microwave ready meals are good too they have veges, rice etc.

You could also have baked beans or spaghetti on toast, tuna/ chicken in a can on crackers, toasted sandwich- I like to have cheese and onion or similar.

I have had the very occasional microwave pie hehe when I had morning sickness all I wanted was pies!
