Reductil had a nasty side effect for a patient up at the clinic I go to - she ended up on life support. It hit the newspapers a few months ago....

Xenical is pretty nasty stuff. A friend was on it, and the side effects are icky to say the least. Went to the doctor this morning and her main suggestion was the IUD but Im just not sure I like the idea of it still plus you have a string hanging out which I kind of find pretty gross. We agrees that depo was not a good option considering Im trying to lose weight and that would make it harder. Also talked about starting zenical for weight loss too but I think while Im still losing I will leave it till I platau (sp?) adn that might kick start me again. I'm on the injection and have put on a little weight, but that was a bit needed so no probs there.

I think it has made me a bit more moody than usual but I think I'll get used to it.

Depo was (almost) my last option so that's why I chose that above pill. I was on the injection for a couple of years and it totally screwed up my system. I put on mega-weight - which I still have to get around to losing... and I'm sure it lead to some of the whacky moods I had at the time and for the two years afterwards. After that I went for an IUD which was great. Didn't feel it, didn't have any complications and all was well in the world. I'm on the injection now and have had no nasty side effects. I was always fine for normal pill too though (apart from taking expired lots and getting preggers). I think I have very stable hormone levels day-to-day.

I got my IUD put in about a month ago. Not completely happy with it. Bonus not having to use condoms anymore but a few days ago I sneezed & had this horrible stabbing pain. I'm abit suspicious that it may have moved coz I got a bit of spotting afterwards. If you are looking at an IUD look at the mirena. It is expensive but if you have low iron stores then it can be subsidies for you and all the cost will be is getting it put in. The IUD is put in your uterus and stays there for up to 5 years depending on which brand you get put in. isnt the iud a thing they stick inside you? not sure I like that idea.
When I was on the injection last time I got it back within a couple of months but would be more than happy not to get it back this time.

I gained a lot of weight on the Depo too, almost 20kgs, which took me a LONG time to take off. It also took me over a year to get my period back, so I wouldn't touch the stuff again with a 10 foot barge pole ! The Implanon is the implant you are talking about that goes under the skin on your arm but I'm not sure if it's available here?

I was on the Depo for 4 years, then had no period for 2 after that - I thought I had made myself infertile. Would NEVER go there again!

The IUD seems to work OK, Mum had one in between kids with no probs, but I do know 2 ladies who have gotten preg with one in.

Another option is the MIrena. maybe talk to your GP, I know a couple of women who have had IUDs put in and think that they are great. Does anyone know anything bout that contracptive thing that they insert under your skin or am I talking about something completely wrong? I just vagualy remember there being some big thing about this type of contracption. Also any of you ladies who have been on the injection, did you all gain weight? I was on it years ago and reckon it contributed (unfortuantely cant blame it all on that) to my weight increase and since IM trying to lose weight I dont want to risk it.
