I resigned 3 months before I was due back as I knew I wasn't returning and felt it was best to give the company the oppertunity to secure the girl who replaced me and for her to have a permanant contract earlier. I know I'm definately not returning to work as we are moving cities when I go on maternity leave, I'm making sure I wait till after PPL, and wasn't really sure at what point between the end of that and the 52 weeks I will give notice.

I resigned perhaps a month before I was due to go back. In my opinion it is best to keep your options open as long as possible 'cause who knows what might happen in the interim - even if you are pretty sure you don't want to go back.

In saying that though I was careful to be non-commital when I periodically spoke to my employers during maternity leave. I'm supposed to be going back in January, at this stage I'm 90% sure I won't. I resigned 4 weeks before I was due back at work. If you know now you're going to be resigning I would just hand my notice in soon as the PPL finishes.

I was made redundant and I was planning on returning BUT if we had decided i wasnt going back then I would have given my 4 weeks notice as soon as we decided AFTER PPL had finished... otherwise I would have lost it...
