i just thought i would pop back in here and say that i got an email back from molecheck....i asked them if they could be paid off instead of one lump sum and they do!!! so thats great!!!

so if anyone cant afford the whole payment all at once, as long as you pay a lump sum on the day then you can pay the rest back in two installments.

Thats so sad to her about your DH's cousin. My Aunty's Brother died at 21 from a brain tumor. It's horrible thing to have happen in a family and we still miss him even though this happened over 10 years ago. My heart goes out to your extended family

Moles and freckles can change when your pregnant.

The main signs for dodgy moles etc are when they change colour/shape, and if they itch a lot and bleed, most moles and freckles are totally normal even if they look dodgy, but if your worried its best to get them checked out by the dr or molemap etc

Can I ask a stupid question... do i need to worry about freckles as well as moles? I have heaps of freckles, always have, but while I was pregnant, I had some really dark freckles appear on my nipple ??? Also, the freckles I had on my tummy also went very dark, almost mole like.

So sorry to hear of these very tragic and sad stories

Becks is right - please get yourself checked straight away if you have any suspect moles.
My husbands 18 year old cousin had a mole removed from his back late last year that had only come up in the months before hand. A scan was done just to make sure as the test results came back a bit suspect and the poor boy found out that the cancer had spread to his internal organs, lymphnods(sp?) and bones. This is no joke, it spreads that fast! We don't know how long he has because he didn't want to know, but he will be lucky if he makes it to this christmas!

OoO I have health insurance! I might talk to my doc about getting some of mine removed. I have spoken to a dr about them in the past and he didn't seem bothered. However I worry about them.

My son has a very large mole on his upper arm with heaps of hair in it. I go to my gp about any mole/freckle I'm worried about, & it's been the one's I've been less worried about that have had to come off, costs about $250 a time to have them excised at gp. Last one only cost $150 though, as they're signed up to a PHO they have a discretionary fund to subsidise some excisions, you don't have to have community services card (we don't). Great thread Becks.. my naughty DH who is supposed to go annually hadnt been (despite my constant nagging) for 3 years.. thankfully the mole the removed (and massive lot of tissue) had not turned to melanoma but it was the grade below (I am not sure of the terms) so he got it just in time!

After a very big lecture from the dermatologist about the importance of regular check ups he has agreed to let me just make the darn appointments annually (and I have requested a reminder be sent)...

Too close for comfort!

I am glad you are ok and thanks for putting this out there! You would think given the climate here that skin checks would be subsidised so everyone can afford it! It is the only reason we have health insurance as the cost for removal at our dermatologist is more than the annual premium

Ï saw a dermatologist who took them off for me. I have health insurance so getting mine removed don't cost me anything. Even if I didn't have that I would get the taken off. Later this year I will look at getting the one on my arm taken off as that one has changed the most.

hmmm this is an interesting thread , I have never had a mole map , i dont have any moles but i do have alot of freckles ( im a red head with very fair skin ) i think im more concerned about my partner tho, he has heaps of moles , esspecialy on his back, i always tell him he should get them checked but in typical male fasion he always says its not important . I would recommend going straight to a dermatologist rather than a Mole Map place. DH went to Mole Map and was charged $200 for the consultation. They told him that some of his moles looked suspect and sent him to a dermatologist who charged him another $250 to have one removed. I had a mole removed from my shoulder about a month ago. It had changed colour and was more raised than normal. Thankfully it was normal but I wouldn't hesitate to get any of my other moles removed, even if they turn out to be nothing. Like Didi99 said, it is such a fast moving cancer so it's better to get them chopped out before they turn into something nasty. My Mum discovered she had a malenoma on her nose that had to be cut out after having a mole map done. It has left a scar but at least she is still here with us!

I can't agree more mummy_becks DP's dad passed away 2.5 years ago from melonoma, it is such a fast moving nasty cancer to have if you don't get it at the start. This mole that I just got removed, had something growing underneath it that I could see and didn't like the look of.

I had a mole on my breast removed last Tuesday and went back to the specialist yesterday to get the stitches removed and get the results. I was lucky that he had taken not just the mole but the surrounding skin and fat away too as the mole had a bit of melonoma in it. I don't need anything done at the moment as he has taken it all out but I need to get the rest of my moles taken out because of that reason.

Please if you have ones that have changed colour or shape get them taken out, yes it does cost but is it worth the cost of your life if you do have skin cancer?
