I had a name decided for number 1. We both liked it, and determined we would use it. Yet, when she was born, the name did not 'fit' her. But in our stubbornness, we stuck with it. For a good part of her first year I felt very uncomfortable with her name - it had to grow on me. Now I think its a great name. I wonder time to time what we might have changed it to. She would most definitely have been nameless for a good week. The second one looked like the name we had picked for her. No issues there.

So dont be surprised if baby Owen is born, and you guys take one look at him, and say, oh def not.... he looks like an Elliot, or a James.... I like the name Owen - its strong and masculine. You can imagine it being heard shouted by his mates. I remember my Dad saying that about my brother's name (Karl). He wanted something that sounded right as a nipper and as an adult.

Cooper could be shortened to Coop.... I don't know how you feel about that. Whilst Cooper Owen flows better (IMO), out of that list I prefer Owen Cooper.

My Fiance and I have completely differing opinions on names. We're having a boy and i don't want something too common and he wants something strong and unusual. Owen is a family name so we'd like to include it as the middle name.

If you dont mind me asking, what was your story with how you said you couldnt have gotten pregnant if it wasnt for the bubs you lost?

Sorry, Im not being a freak lol, I feel like I can relate to you. Because if I hadnt gotten pregnant in 2010, I wouldnt have known I had kidney failure. I had to give up my bubs to stay alive and now I got the go ahead to get pregnant after a kidney transplant from DH last year October. So if my lil angel hadnt come along and given up its life, I wouldnt be able to have the chance to get pregnant now.

I love your names btw!

DH and I have already decided on names haha, when were not even engaged and I was still in school. Olivia Elsie for a girl and Jacob Michael or Jacob Jonathan. argh - DP and I have never agreed on names! Luckily he had NOTHING for a girls name when number 1 came along Lilijanna Pearl. And because I had such a strong reasoning behind the name he couldnt argue. (Lili is the hebrew meaning of Susan - my name. And Janna is the second part of my absolute soul mate best friends name - Mariejanna who had all boys and woudl have used Janna for a girl if she had one - so Lilijanna is super special to us. Pearl is the birthstone for the month that I was due and lost the baby, if we hadnt have lost that baby I couldnt have got pregnant with Lilijanna so that is our tribute to the baby that gave itself up for Lili) (pronounced Lily Yah naa, the J is said like Y - my friend is dutch and Jana is also a croatian name and my mum is croatian - so everything is perfect)

PROBLEM! I am now pregnant with number 2......DP and I CAN NOT agree on anything and I absolutely HATE the names he has (which are all boys names again....but I think we are having another girl) and he keeps saying that because I named Lili that he should name number 2 - yikes! I wont tell you what his choice of names are because I dont want to offend someone with those names - but Im a school teacher and there are just SOME names I cant do! (history is a very repetitive thing and funnily enough kids with the same name even years apart can be soooo much the same in their personality)

So I am tryign really hard to find a name that has as much meaning as our first....I also dont wnat number 2 to think number 1 got all teh good names and she just ended up with something out of a book because mummy was too busy with baby 1 (the age gap is going to be close, I dont want her to think she was an accident)

ETA: I like older names, really liked Elodie and Etta but DH wasn't keen. Evie was our agreed upon second choice, and Natalie was our first choice. DH's Mum asked if Natalie would be shortened to Nat, which I wasn't keen on. I preferred Tilly, but knew others would call her Nat. And then suddenly, Evie was first choice!

Jean will be her middle name, as that's my Grandma's name (she's not very well at the moment) and I found out recently that Rose (my married surname) is her middle name! And then last week Mum told me that her great-Aunt's daughters' kid's (I think) name is Evie!

haha,im not having anymore (well thats the plan anyway) but I managed to get DH to agree to one of my favourite girl names if we ever did have another girl.
I've always loved the name Olivia but his argument is that it would get shortened to Ollie (which he doesn't mind for Oliver btw,just not for Olivia) and I was like,um "no...they would nickname her Liv or Livvie....cos thats what I would call her,just like people call Amelia,Mila cos thats what I call her..."
Light goes on.Decides Liv/Livvie is quite cute,Kelly gets her name.
Too bad I'll never be able to use it...

so i ummed and ahhed about showing DH my full list in all it's glory.... after some careful deliberation i did show him - but told him that i wasn't in love with most of them, just liked them for some reason at some point in time/wamted them there for inspiration.

i think i officially scared the pants off him!

although, i think it may now work in my favour because now my favourite names which are not too out there but not too common will seem relatively safe to him compared to what i could be suggesting

My grandparents actually had turns at naming their kids, nana named the first then grandad the next and so on. Names are such a PITA in our house as DH is so adamant about what he does not like, but is terrible at offering up any suggestions of his own. It is also a subject he does not like to talk about prior to the birth, which is another thing that irks me, especially given how everything gets a "no". I would prefer slightly alternative names as well, but he is pretty classic, and that's okay, but if I married anybody else, this would be my territory and they'd have little input lol. Sorcha can be pronounced SOR-sha or SOR-kha...the "k" is pronounced at all.

I know a SOR-sha.

I also like the name Saoirse (is that the name you are meaning Gen2011?) But I can never remember how to spell it and have to google it so not sure if I could use that name lol. But my DF is Irish so would be nice to have an Irish name. Our daughter is Isla and everyone thinks it's Irish cause her Daddy is Irish, but it is actually scottish..... so now we just say her name is of 'gaelic' origin haha.

I really liked Cailyn & Callie as girls names, but we have a Caleb - too similar! I know what you mean about the popular thing. When we named Oliver I only knew 1 Ollie and he was 40! Of course once we had him I realised how popular it was becoming. Same thing with Lilia - Lily (and it's variants) are everywhere. Ah well, just means lots of people share our good taste, lol

So I got put off Avia when we visited my Mum and I saw her sneakers ... the brand? Avia!

DH & I have been talking about names again and after a bit of negotiating I think we may finally have a name, yay! We started off both liking Sarah, and after a bit of to-ing and fro-ing (Sarah -> Sierra -> Siarra -> Ciara) we now have Siara 'see-AH-ra'. Different websites give different meanings:
• Pure, holy – Arabic
• Dark, black – Gaelic
• Little dark-haired one – Celtic
• Mountain range – Spanish

DH wants to see how he feels about it in a couple of days, but I'm pretty sure we'll go with it. I don't think it matters *too* much, they're similar but not too similar - your name will soon be Mum anyway How do you pronounce your name? Law-ren (longer first syllable) or Lo-ren? Would you call him Lachlan or Lachie?

I don't think Lauren and Lachlan are too similar, different perhaps if you were going for Lauren and Laura I love the name Lachlan, pitty DH's cousin stole it for their boy

I love the name Yasmin too, but it always reminds me of that BCP.

We've stopped talking names too, DH likes Jack and Tyler, but to me they are both just too common. I have a Caitlyn and a Tyler and I had the same thought when pregnant with my 3rd,it HAD to be a Y name so it was either gonna be Ryan,or Elyse,Alysha or something else which i've completely forgotten.
Only problem was I've always loved the name Amelia,but it didn't match the other two.
However,after obsessing about it,I realised that its not like I was going to be spelling their names whenever I told someone what my kids names are,Caitlyn could be Caitlin for all the other person knew,and its not like I would always be calling them as a group...so we did name her Amelia,and I can't imagine her to be anything else.

Doulamama I know a Jeddiah, he's Jed for short though. We have some friends with strange names. Sheppard and Haddasah. They were #5 and 6 babies. The first names weren't to bad.

We have a Hendrix, which is a bit hard to match with, but I love Murphy and Fletcher for a boy, girls names we had Asta incase H was a girl, but I think I've gone off it? Who knows... I think I'm trying to convince myself that this ones a boy too hehe
I get some strange reactions to H's names, I think if people don't like what you've named your kid, they should just get over it! You can never please everyone.
