I have found the "what to expect" book way better now that I actually have a bubba!! (didn't rate it before hand...)

And, stumbled across the Robin Barker "baby love" at the library the other day...got it without really looking at it, and just in the last hour or so have been reading it...It's great!

Do you belong to the local library? I got the NZ Pregnancy Book from mine. It only covers pregnancy and the first 3 months though.

Have a look on Book Depository too - it can sometimes work out cheaper to buy the books from them (free shipping). I buy most of my books from them now, because of the price.

I found the thriving under 5 (free from plunket) and bounty book (free from hospital) to be all I needed. But google is most definitely my valued friend. I also just got the Baby led weaning book, but that's for a bit later on. My approach to parenting is very 'go with the flow' though.

It might be easier to wait and see if you have any problems with anything before spending heaps on books you might never need. We have the 'call me dad' book and I don't think DH opened it often, if at all.

I have a massive folder of pamphlets on every subject possible as well so all the random info I've collected is together.

Kaz Cookes one for babies is 'kid-wrangling' I found it great.

Ooh I second the Baby Love recommendation, definitely not preachy and very down to earth.

I have Jo Frost's Confident Babycare book, which is also good and have just noticed that I also have her Supernanny book on the shelf - a good one for later on

I'm a bit addicted to buying books so I also have:
Gina Ford (Contented Little Baby and her Toddler book as well) - not for everyone, but I like what she has to say and it has worked well for us.
What to Expect the First Year - not as easy to read as the Robin Barker one IMO and also very American.
Raising Boys (Steve Biddulph) is great and I also recommend their Raising Girls book. They have a good one on being happy parents too

I used it so many times in the first few months. It has an index so if you are worried about something you can look it up.

I always forget about TM!

I just feel a little guilty that I have a book on raising dogs but not a child! ahh bad mother!!!

I've heard up the duff is funny - I think she has another one out for after bubs is born too. Might have a wee hunt at the weekend.

I got given the NZ Pregnancy Book as a gift, and it was fabulous. It goes beyond pregnancy into caring for a new baby. It's a bit expensive though -- I think around $60, so I was pleased to get it for Christmas. You might be able to get it in the library.
