for me being a super fat pregnant lady my biggest worry was not being fit enough to cope with a long labour. with my first pregnancy i got up to over 135kg and there are definitely disadvantages when it comes to labouring. For instance i couldn't squat, and being on my hands and knees was not very comfortable or easy to achieve.
doctors dont like you being obese when pregnant and dont like you going over and always assume you will get GD.

I know the other side of the story. A family friend of our was huge (I am talking 5 foot nothing and about 150kgs) when she had her boy now 21 years ago. She crushed him coming out and he was born clinicly dead, but was brought back and we celebrated his 21st last night

She was ordered not to get pregnant till she had lost some weight and did so but it took a while and took her longer to get pregnant with her 2nd and she had the same issues with her 2nd as she did with her 1st (baby in neonates with breathing issues).

Statistically, yes, it is more likely that people who are overweight will have difficulty conceiving because increased weight can result in hormone changes in the pituitary gland in the brain - just like being underweight affects your odds (and don't ask me how to explain how this works - it's my BIL's research field but WAAAAY above my brain level). But lots of people have shown that while it's an issue at a population level, it might not be a problem for you.

Yep Melnel is correct, I recall my surgeon telling me about the cs procedure being harder and longer on an overweight person. (which makes sense really).

Not entirely true... There can be complications with healing etc and the surgery itself is more complicated due to the extra layers.. lovely reading my op notes, just what you need when you hormones are out of whack.

I too am a lot over weight and didnt really have much trouble getting pregnant and so far have a fairly easy going pregnancy...

I was worried that my weight would hinder getting UTD but it didnt and I am worried about the effect on my baby but my MW hasnt said anything so Im not too worried at this point...

I am VERY big as well and while I had a few complications with my first daughter's birth and ended up in a c-sect, my second daughter's birth went very smoothly and I had a good VBAC against the odds. I had no problems at all conceiving or carrying them. The main things that my mw watched me closely for were high blood pressure (which runs in my family normally) and they wanted me to have all the GTT tests done as a precaution.

I am a "larger lady"......and although I had a trouble free pregnancy 1st time around, I do worry about this time. I havent had any unusual / out of the ordinary probs so far (touch wood), but I am keeping an eye on how much weight I put on (I actually lost 3kgs in my 1st trimester!)

I had a VB with #1, there were some complications, but no one ever said it was because I was overweight. #1 wasnt a large baby either (and he was 2 wks overdue) he was only 7lbs. I think a lot of it depends on how healthy you are in general as well.

I was (and still am) waht you would call 'super fat'. I had no trouble conceiving, had a trouble free pregnancy, I did have high blood pressure for a week and quite bad oedema(sp) but that was it. I had to have a CS but no complications there, I actually healed quite quickly. My son was a healthy 9lb 7oz, so I dont think my weight had any affect on him.

Yes and yes, I'm overweight BMI of around 38-40 and yes I conceived without any trouble or assistance, and have had a trouble free pregnancy so far.

The only complication around c-sections is to do with the anesthestic. Not the op itself.

I have only gained 4kgs so far this pregnancy and expect to only gain a few more in the coming months.

I only complication I really know of is casareans are a bit more tricky. but in saying that there'd easily be an overweight c/s every day - or so I reckon.

Obesity is known to affect conception, but I've known a few big pregnant women. It took me a long time to conceive - I'm about 105 kgs and 5 ft 2 inches, so pretty obese according to the charts. There is a lady at my work who is probably 10 - 15 kgs more than me though, she is pregnant also, and had no trouble conceiving.

I don't know what it is like to be pregnant as a smaller person, but I am not finding it too bad at all (I know I have a way to go though!). I've had no complications whatsoever.

I know other women of similar size who have conceived no trouble also.

My mum was able to have babies while obese. She didn't make any diet changes during or before the pregnancy and in the end she had well-cooked, large babies (11lbs/5kg). I don't personally know any really overweight women who have had babies.

Are your menstrual cycles regular? If they are you could probably get pregnant. But I really don't know what effects being overweight might have on your pregnancy and your baby. I did find this article though: http://www.help-with-obesity.com/morbid-obesity-and-pregnancy.html
Not sure if this fits with your situation, but it would probably be a good idea to chat with your doctor about the risks first.

I'm wanting to know if super fat woman can get pregnant, and if it's "ok"?
Does that make sense?
It's like I'm fat, I don't mean "gosh I'm a wee bit rounded", I mean the first thing any Dr would say to me is I'm super obese and need to loose weight.
So, can I get pregnant? (again, I was like 30kg lighter when I got UTD with DS)
And then I'm wondering how the little one would cope with having this huge belly pushing down on their little home?
Does anyone know of VERY large woman having ok pregnancies?
