Even though JJ had numerous scans showing a potentially serious kidney abnormality (now he only has one functioning kidney) I strongly felt that everything was ok with him in utero (although if it had have been both kidneys instead of one he would have died) and sure enough he was fine. In fact if we'd never had scans with him we still wouldn't know about it.

With Addie I only had the anatomy scan to double check all the organs were plumbed in correctly this time, and we had one soft marker for abnormalities (bilateral choroid plexus cysts), I chose not to get worked up about it or google anything as I was told more often than not they resolve themselves. Author: KH25
Subject: 35441
Posted: 25 August 2010 at 7:56pm

I had a scan today - my 12th(!!!!) for the pregnancy as it is very high risk and I have numerous problems going on. So had the scan and sat down to talk to the doc about possible bedrest and steriods for bubs etc, only to be told that they found 2 potential problems on the scan that haven't been seen before. One was something in the brain (my head was spinning so didn't fully take in what was being said) it was meant to measure 10mm and measured 12mm and there was a shadow on the heart. The doc said just one on it's own they wouldn't even think twice about but because there is 2 then they are more concerned. They still said there is a fairly small chance of anything being wrong, around 3% but obviously still a risk. We were offered an amnio to be done tomorrow which we have turned down at this stage and we have an appt with another specialist on Monday who will be able to explain things better. Has anyone been through this? i don't understand how I can have 11 scans showing a perfectly healthy baby and then suddenly there are 2 issues? Most people don't even get a scan after 20wks so this wouldn't be an issue for them! I don't know what to think I so just want to crawl into a hole right now, it's too hard
