our girls got them within 2 weeks of each other and the older one did better not scratching etc but the wee one couldn't help herself. the thing about calamine lotion is a bit tricky...

any ideas for healing scaring apart from bio oil which isn't working DS1 has two scars on his face that aren't fading and it's been nearly a year the annoying thing is he didn't scratch or anything but when we were dressing and undressing him the scabs would lift causing sacring.
Anyway anyone know ways to reduce the exisitng scars? there is one just under his eye which is the worse.

we chose to do the immunisation for DS... however there is not much research into how long its effective for... so he may get it later in life ?? time will tell...

I have seen the effects of chicken pox and its just horrible... the scratching.. holes.. and scarring.. When I got them (some time ago now), the doc said to have a bath in potassium permanganate (?sp). Can't remember what it was supposed to do, but between that making my skin a funny colour and the calamine lotion dotted everywhere, I looked hlarious! Must have worked though as have no scars and the itching decreased heaps.

I cant use calamine for the reason busy mum mentioned... doesnt mzatter what its for it dries my skin out and majes it worse!!! Might be like moisturisers... different skin, different reaction.

My kids had cp during the holidays. Pinetarsol baths were the best thing for my kids. I pulled put the old baby bath and set it up in front of the fire in the lounge whenever they got irritable.

I used calamine too (which was recommended by pharmacy, doctor and healthline so interesting to hear that others have been told not to use it). Healthline told me only to put it on the itchiest spots ( hard to determine with a 1yr old).

I got Mebo anti itch cream for ds too because he had it really bad in his nappy area and would scream when he went wees. We were advised not to use it as well. We used Solosite gel which worked well and his scaring has almost gone. We had these recently. I set aside a mini bottle of aloe vera handcream and told the girls anytime they felt like itching, they could get some cream and put it on instead. Tepid to warm baths can provide some relief (but you don't want to do that too often because of the dry skin factor), and we had jelly and stewed fruit when they were feeling particularly flu-ey. nah calamine wont cause them to scar when they dry....they need to dry and crust over to heal....its the scratching and removing the top off fresh ones that cause scaring....

we were told that calomine will dry them out causing more scarring, pinetarsol (sp?) is great for easing the itch and tea tree cream to heal them heal.

DS had them a few months ago - does one of your children have them? It was probably a bit different for us as DS is a baby & didn't really scratch them. We just used calomine lotion and tried to avoid touching the spots as I remember having them as a child and some of the spots really hurt!
