I am flying to Australia in a week with our 15week old baby boy. Those who have travelled what do you need in the nappy bag other than extra nappies, wipes and clothes?
3 hour flight will be interesting so any suggestions on how to make more comfortable for us would be great - note plane I am travelling on doesn't have a bassinet.

hehe i considered feeding on t/o, but she fell asleep! All the noise & vibration = great pacifier! Best time to feed is top-of-descent as that's when their little ears start to hurt, and the sucking helps. When Pip wouldn't feed at TOD last time, she happily sucked her hand instead.

Just a word of warning with the feeding during take off and landing.... I did this with DS when we flew from Wellington to Tauranga and it was a bit bumpy - he was sick all over me, and we were only halfway through the flight!! If you use a dummy - that will work just as well. I found the seats to be a bit small for feeding comfortably, esp if you are sitting next to someone you don't know!

Invercargill doesn't have a international airport- I might take a bag that'll fit the capsule (it's a P&T capsule-one of the smallest?) incase they don't have a bag to put it in!
I'm not worried about taking the capsule ON the plane, as long as I can check it in or something that'll be fine!
I'll literally only be taking myself, baby, capsule and nappy bag, lol. Everything else will drive up with DH.
I've got a sling so will throw that in the nappy bag but can't imagine it'll be too much of a problem

Whats a baby seat belt?
I was planning on feeding him on takeoff and landing... If he'll take it! I have taken DD on about 6 domestic trips since she was 2 weeks old - yip it seems to be 2 baby items (stroller/carseat etc) plus normal baggage allowance for adults and a bag for baby. My hubby used to fly for domestic airnz and he said that some capsules are ok, but they have to be approved by the cabin staff....and he said don't rely on it because they will all tell you different things! If you really want to take capsule on, it would definitely pay to ask at check-in, on the day - and get a plastic bag to put it in if you have to check it in. Personally, I wouldn't bother taking the capsule as carry-on, as its really hard to manoeuvre them out of it when you need to feed, and STFU juice is great for top-of-descent ear pain prevention Its easy enough with them on your lap.

Oh, and if you don't want to carry your baby through airport or have to push a trolley etc, def recommend a sling or front pack. Flissty, AFAIK the seat has to be an "approved" seat, regardless of whether it's forward or rear facing. Have you been able to take a capsule on the plane Tishy?

I read on one of the airline's sites that they don't allow any seats that are rear facing b/c it puts the baby at increased risk if there is an accident - that's why they only allow forward facing carseats. Hi - I flew with DS to Christchurch when he was 5 weeks old.

Although I'd been told that I would get a plastic bag for my capsule and pram by Air NZ, the person at check in said that they didn't have any. Wish I'd been told that before as my capsule had bits and ended up coming through the luggage in separate parts -- I'd take your own bag if you have one or go to the international terminal early and get it wrapped.

I found my experience with Air NZ very mixed -- no help on the way down to Chch and I had to remind staff twice about a baby seat belt, etc, but the staff on the way back couldn't have been lovelier.

You can check in the capsule free of charge ( won't count as part of your baggage allowance).

When we flew domestic last year they let you take as much as you need for baby, so pram, carseat/capsule, portacot etc (we also had a big plastic box with all C's food and plates, bottles, cups etc). Then a nappy bag as well. It just has to meet the hand carry requirements, but they can have their own bag. I also carried C in our Ergo so I had my hands free for bags etc.

I found Air NZ really good for a domestic flight, their staff were really lovely and went out of their way to help us out and make life easier.

We are planning on flying to Christchurch in the next month or so for a family function. But we aren't sure what we can take for baby- we had a look online but it doesn't really say.
I will be meeting my husband in Chch, he'll be driving up with my bro and SIL. So I will need the capsule to get to the airport (by myself as they will already be on the road) but of course will need the capsule when we land in Chch (the car won't be in Chch yet).

So am I allowed to take the capsule on the airplane? I won't need to take the pram cos that can go in the car.
