Don't pack too much or you'll just have to lug it everywhere. But a couple of toys or books that he hasn't seen before might be a good idea... depends what he likes.

Have you thought about where he'll sleep over there? Will he be in a "big bed" by then or will you need to arrange a portacot over there?

They sell Huggies over there so you don't have to worry about the bulkyness of them. If he is still on a formula of some sort, see if they sell it over there, then just take a few packets until you can get a whole can.

If you are looking at going get your passports now if you can afford it. Sometime there can be delays and the last thing you need is the worry about are they going to make it before you leave.

See if your friend can borrow a pushchair over there from a friend of hers. That way you don't have to worry about taking on over.

When I travel I write a list before hand of any food products or medication I have in the bag and then when they ask, i can pull that out and they usually just look and wave me on. If any of the medication is on prescription, see if you can get a copy to take with you. Most stuff is okay, but better to be safe than sorry.

A backpack is easy but I found we needed somewhere for Kobe to sleep if we were out all day. I know at that age they can walk for ages but the heat and excitment can make for a tired grumpy child. Our friends thought they wouldnt bother and we ended up hiring a pushchair for them.
As for the medicine, take it with you. Things like infant pamol etc you can get over there but it will be expensive cos your not getting it on prescription. Plus there are no guarantees you will get the same stuff as here.
