You are so much more onto it than I was with Lucy btw.. the first night we got her home from hosp (early sep 09) she screamed and wouldn't settle for hours. I was sure she was hungry and I didn't have enough milk to BF her, so sent DH out for a 2hr car trip to buy formula at 3am in the morning haha sucker! Anyway, by the time he arrived home I'd finally realised she was just cold, so had settled her using a warmed wheat-bag, extra blankets and finally thought to turn on our thermostat heater. Guess I was just so sleep deprived or something, that such an obvious solution just didn't occur to me!

I didn't know (til we saw a karitane nurse and she worked it out) that ds ran hot so didn't like it all.

This time round I'm planning on all in one suit thingy (with a short sleeve body suit underneath) and then some sort of swaddle/wrap during the day, maybe a sheet so I feel like bubs is in bed and then the cotton cell blanket at night. If you have a bassinet the cotton cell blanket should be plenty big enough to fold in half if it's a little colder.

You can get some really cheapish room thermometers for peace of mind (it really helped my SIL and me to have a thermometer just so we could satisfy our overthinking paranoid type minds that it wasn't too cold )

But here's a bit of an idea;
For day sleeps I'd just swaddle her in a muslin wrap (she was tiny so this was about 3 layers) with a folded cotton cellular blanket (so it was double layer). She would have been wearing a cotton onsie and some socks and maybe a light hat if it was cooler.
Depending on the temperature at night she'd be swaddled in the same muslin thing with 2-4 layers of merino blanket (I had some merino swaddles that I used as blankets for ages) and a hat. This seems like a lot but she was only 2.5kg when we brought her home so maybe you'd need less with a full term baby.

Don't fret about it too much, you work it out pretty quickly.

I was obsessed with getting it right for my DS who was a July baby and bought enough blankets for nearly every child on the street - and guess what? I only ever used one! lol.

I dressed him in a cotton all in one sleepsuit (and possibly a singlet?? can't remember) and swaddled him and then a cotton blanket (doubled over) on top during the night - he was in our room and we had a thermostat on the heater so kept the room at a constant temp. In the day time I just judged it nap by nap. On really cold days/nights I used a very fine merino blanket on top.

Have a look at this great link which I referred to lots and will do for my next baby who will be an autum one.
