DS takes a bottle when I'm not there (I work 3 days a week), but doesn't fall asleep with it -- DH and Nana wish he did!


They tend to cuddle him to sleep when he does sleepy cues (rubbing eyes is an absolute giveaway for him).

I can't/don't leave him. I have to be there to get him to sleep

I have ONE friend that can rock him to sleep and that is it. Lol. If he took a bottle it'd be a different story I'd try get him to take a bottle of EBM to fall asleep on then once he's used to it anyone could do it. Hmm okay maybe I don't need to stop doing it - the only reason really was getting him to go to bed if I'm not there....what do you do in that case?

I don't feed him to sleep during the day, I do feed, play then sleep it's just at night it doesn't end up working

I did at about 6 months and substituted feeding to sleep with rocking to sleep. I then tried to slowly progress to patting to sleep but then somewhere along the way I forgot to move past that and went backwards to rocking to sleep and sometimes even feeding to sleep recently....

I weaned Lily at 4 months simply because she was getting too much fore milk so rather than feeding her as soon as she woke up and then an hour later when she went to sleep, I would get her up and after about 30 mins feed her and then 30 mins later - bed!

However she's started solids and I feed her to sleep in the evening before bed and during the day I do sometimes as well (depends if she falls asleep or not).

This was us too, although now that DD2 is nearly 15mo we feed to drowsy and then she is popped straight into bed, sometimes she has a wee grizzle and sometimes not.

I don't mind it, and at some stage I *might* consider trying to space things out a little so she feeds awake and goes to bed awake... but it works for us so we are just going with it.

I dunno when we stopped feeding to sleep but maybe about 3-4 months I think. I did it coz he was a crap sleeper during the day (still was after the change tho) and hoped that if he self settled he might sleep better.

I just started taking him off the boob when he was getting drowsy rather than asleep and then at first he would complain so sometimes would go back on but eventually increased his wakefulness.

I still do it too. He can go to sleep on his own during the day but sometimes I like feeding him to sleep lol it's cute.
I would like to start reducing how often I do it tho. We did the same as westies girl only at night (although every now and again during the day if she was particularly fussy). Now she goes to bed awake too as we have feed stories then bed. I started feeding her then reading 1 page and into bed and gradually lengthened the story. Now we feed in the lounge then taking her down to her room for stories then into bed which we managed with no fuss and no crying.

You can feed until drowzy then put into bed and just lengthen out the time between feed and into bed gradually. Do you feed to sleep at all naps and bed times?

I fed Jackson to sleep ONLY at night and overnight till 11 months. But that was cos he would fall asleep on the boob while feeding. All other times we did feed play sleep, so he self settled during the day.

When I stopped it, he cried for the first 3 nights but since then its been fine.
