We did time out. He'd hit other kids not me. Lasted for 2 months and he's great now. It was so stressful so you have my sympathy. Hmmmmm Clodagh is a bit of a hitter too, I just try to grab her and hold her arms down by her sides and say sternly 'we don't hit!'. Or if she has hit me, I pretend to cry and I say 'you hurt Mummy....we don't hit....say sorry!'...and she looks concerned, but 9 times out of 10 she'll come up to me and say 'sor' (sorry) then...'duddle? (cuddle?)..and put her arms around me and of course I cuddle her back. Also does this when she pulls my hair. When DD was doing it at 1 year I just used to sit at her level and say we don't hit. Thank goodness I'm not the only one with these issues! After a day of naughty step and taking toys off her (I think that might be working a little better than the naughty step), she still hit me in the evening so it was bed early with no stories. Finally I think it sunk in a little that we are serious about this. She's so cunning though, she yells out that she needs to do wees over and over so I go back into her room to take her to the loo. Oh no, my 14 month old daughter has started doing this already! She pinches and scratches, hits and throws things, and mostly at me!
I dont really have any advice as Im kinda stuck with just saying NO! thats not nice! and ten showing how to be nice to mummy etc - Im not sure she listens.

Im so not used to this as my son who is 2.4 years old has always been a gentle boy, he did go through a hititng stage but he doesnt do that much anymore.

Campbell does it to me too, but Daddy gets it sometimes too!
I've just started using time out in the spare room when he hits or throws things at people. I hear you! I get the treatment as well - far more than her Dad. (she hasn't got the vocab yet to say she doesn't like me, but that's probably not far off!). I think this is a stage a lot of toddlers go through

What i do is say "do not hit" and put her down on the floor as soon as she hits me and leave the room for a minute or so (assuming it is safe to do so).

When i come back in she will usually ask for a cuddle. She has really improved since i started this.

I am at my wits end!! My 2yr daughter is hitting, scratching, pinching and throwing things. I've tried the naughty step...over and over and over again. I've tried taking things off her. Nothing seems to work. It's mostly me she lashes out at. I'm pregnant so I thought it may be a jealousy thing, but probably a long shot. She's only hit her Dad once, but hits me a lot. It's really upsetting and I just don't know what to do anymore. She even tells me that she likes daddy but doesn't like mummy. Breaks my heart!
