I was going to say what Kellie said you can save open office docs in word format. I used to do this before I got microsoft office.

I have a few exercises that you can do in open office if you need them from uni. Im pretty sure you can save the file to be compatible with Word. You need to go file-save as *.doc

In the options I believe you can actually change it to save files in MS Office formats by default as well.

Just one word of caution....if you're using Open Office or any other word processing program, it's likely that you won't be able to use your documents to apply online for a job. You can download a free 90 day trial of MS Word from the internet, have you tried that?
