I was only taking it during the day to see if it was giving me temps that seemed odd (to see if the 'first thing in the morning' ones could be odd too), not to prove anything by it.

I just took it again - 36.7 - so apparently I'm not any warmer after being awake & moving around for an hour than I was when at 5am this morning.

ETA: and I know its not the best way of doing it, but its my compromise between knowing and obsessing... I did it properly for about 3mths before I started cutting corners.

Edited by jessm

You have to do it prior to getting out of bed & after about 4hrs solid sleep.

Taking your temp during the day will give you no indication & will show different temps. Different things can cause a change in temps like mouth breathing while asleep, temp in the bedroom, waking up during the sleep & so on, the most accurate way to take it is vaginal.

I would either throw away your thermometer or do it everyday.

The flashing a little symbol is standard, mine does it.
Author: jessm
Subject: 36552
Posted: 05 November 2010 at 8:03am

Not sure if my thermometer is playing up...

Does anyone know what the diff normally is between bbt and normal? Obviously its going to vary quite a lot, but... and is normal temp normally higher after ov as well, or only bbt?

I used to chart, but have cut it down now to just taking a temp or 2 when I think ov has happened to confirm it. Only have a 0.1 degree of accuracy, and I've not normally been too bothered about what time, whether before or after feeding dd etc, I've been able to see a shift. Before for me is normally 36.4-36.5, sometimes lower. After is normally 36.7-36.8, sometimes higher. This month I had classic EWCM, took my temp & it was 36.5. Next day, 36.2, but I wasn't thinking properly & read it as very high (ie. 37.2). Wasn't until next day (well after EWCM gone) that it read 36.5 again and I clicked that I'd got it wrong. Now confused (and worried!). Left it for a day, but was no different the next day (what I would have thought was about 4ds post ov). tried taking it during the day, was 36.6, after exercise once 36.7, which I would have thought wasn't high enough. Another morning, about an hour after getting up, 37.1. This morning (about 10ds after suspected ov), 36.7. One day it was flashing a little symbol (battery?) that I hadn't seen before.

That was a VERY long-winded way of saying, do you think my thermometer could be faulty or is this normal & I just haven't ov'd. Any ideas?
