my flatmate has a very deep umbilical hernia.
his belly button is a perfect innie but if he puts his finger in he can pull his belly button/hernia out to being an outie.

Wow, i so did not know that it was just how it healed! Awesome.

Here's something weird for you guys, I really like innies as oposed to outies but my belly button is SOOO far in, you can't see the bottom and I used to get infections in there from not being able to clean it! I would have to pull it apart with tweezers and clean and dry it every week or so..

Well interesting... I thought that it was hereditary and that how the cord was cut was "an old wives tale"

My DD has an outie at the end of the day too the rest of the time it's kinda just a flattie.

DD still has an outie - especially at the end of the day when her tummy pokes out most, it's so funny! My belly button never even went flat when I was pregnant (despite the 9lb baby lol), it was still an innie. DS 3 def. has an outie, no concerns have ever been raised about it. It healed really well and quickly, never thought (and still don't think) it is a concern.

DS 1 has an innie - similar to his Dad's!

DF actually asked about this is Antenatal class last week. Was quite amusing.
It's all up to how it heals. DF still has an outie at 23. Looks funny lol. I have an innie, or a flattie at the moment lol.

I don't think having an outie is a problem. DS1 has an outie and he is 3 in February and absolutely fine. Has it been seen by anyone 'medical' before Bex? I'm sure if it was cause for concern they would have said something - although my MW didn't... Lily had an umbilical hernia (outie) but it healed up by 5 months and is now an innie. Though they said if she still had it at 1 (the hernia) then they would operate.

But def just how it heals. Outies are umbilical hernias.
