I also second the lower case alphabet it can take ages for some children to re adjust if they have been taught capitals only.

a font that is good is the comic sans one as it does the a properly e.g.

I got a puzzle - lower case. The one I really liked had the 'A' like it comes out on computer fonts - with the flicky thing on top. Which didn't seem that useful really. But I found another one that had the 'A' as it would be taught at school.

Biggest mistake I ever did was teach my oldest her name in uppercase. It took longer to unteach it than it would have to leave her to it and learn at the regular pace with people who actually know what they are doing. lol. Yeah I agree, I taught 5 year olds and it took ages to get them to change if they had learnt their name in uppercase. Sometimes they would just have one letter in the middle of the name being uppercase, was weird. They use the lower case more often and need to understand the role of upper case before learning it I think. Yep definitely lower case, there's a font you can get for your computer (sorry I don't know where from but our kindy got it) that looks like New Zealand handwriting the way the kids should be learning it- great for labels, flashcards, etc. Maybe a teacher would know where from? *Blush* this was us! While we taught Ollie both upper and lower cases we always wrote his name in upper letters. 100% go with lower case i'm a kindy teacher and we teach children to write their name in lower case with the first letter being a captial.

I have seen HEAPS of children who have been taught the whole alphabet in upper case and then can't understand that there is a lower case, some think they are different letters all together. try explaning that an "A is an a" it's tricky is all i can say!

So start right lower case abc and then introduce upper later.

I am guessing that this doesn't *really* matter but thought I would ask!

Jackson has an amazing memory and is currently obsessed with a wooden puzzle where the pieces spell out his name. He's quickly memorised the letters in his name. He LOVES puzzles so we thought we'd get him an alphabet puzzle. He'll love it and it will be a chance for him to start learning to recognise his letters.

Do you think I should get a lower case puzzle or an upper case puzzle?

His name puzzle is mostly lower case so was thinking that would be best so as not to confuse him.
