SophieD - I use Avent cups that also come with an adaptor for pump and bottle - not that I have an Avent pump and I use a different brand bottle too , but yeah, the cups are great. They hold about 180mls, have a leak-proof screw on top and stack neatly in the freezer (they came in a pack of 10 but I can't remember the price, did get them from Farmers in one of their 30% sales though)

How does everyone store EBM in the freezer? In this weather I wouldn't leave ebm at room temp for too long, I put mine straight in the fridge after expressing.
48 hours in the fridge and up to 3 months in the freezer

Yeah -- I frequently use EBM for up to 5 days in the fridge.

I think the MoH guidelines are really conversative and, frankly, make it hard for those of us who really want to try having our baby on fully breast milk and no formula.

I'm sure I've read La Leche League publications (can't put my finger on it now, but think that it was "Nursing Mother Working Mother"), which talk about how breast milk's white cells actually destroy bacteria so it's so much more stable than formula or pasteurised cow's milk, and up to 8 days is ok -- you'd drink refrigerated cow's milk of that age.

I have left ebm in the fridge for 8 days before,.....not a thing wrong with it. It's not like formula that grows bacteria faster than you can blink..

If baby was NOT prem I can't see why milk should have to be frozen or dumped in 48 hours.

hmmm interesting about wrong info being given out at ante natal, my class said 4 hours room temp and four days in the fridge too??

That is interesting that they aren't giving out correct information!

EBM is good for 48hrs in the fridge. In saying that it use to be 5 days so I would still use it this once Melnel.

I went with 4-5days from memory.

DD only ever had 100ml from bottle she started going up to about 150ml but only from 6mths on. Are you able to take it frozen? Then if you think you'll need it defrost it there? MOH - 48 hours in fridge. Pretty close.
Other sites (Australian) - 3-5 days.

I cant remember how long breast milk lasts in the fridge????

I have some I expressed on thursday morning and forgot to freeze (it was on the bottom shelf right at the back so the coldest part and hidden by a bottle of coke LOL).

We are going out tonight so I am just getting some stores out of the freezer and wonder if this will still be ok for a feed tonight at 6-7ish????

Also, he has had a bottle before but just a top up to see if he would take the bottle before we went out tonight so he has never had a full feed. From memory Jake would have about 150ml at this age (9 weeks) per feed... does that sound about right?

We will be gone 6-midnight at the latest and he normally cluster feeds in the early evening and then goes down 9-9.30pm for the night (well until the next feed anyway LOL) So was thinking a 150ml bottle for the early evening then 2 50 ml bottle for the "cluster" period if he needs them, then another 150ml for the 9pm ish feed??? With maybe another 50ml just in case???
