Oh do you not have a Radian? I think you can get extension straps from somewhere, tho I have no idea where that might be. I really dont get the whole strap over the car seat thing, it seems rather odd to me. Yup, over the carseat into the back. I thought about going to the front with it but the instructions say really blatently that it must go to the back and not fall in any cracks in the seats etc etc. Though now thos damn tether straps will have to be negotiated when i put bubs in and out. bowie- you say your strap is too long, are you putting it over the car seat into the back? I ask cause my strap can extend out a really long way and fits in our ute fine. TOTALLY a threadjack but it seemed silly to start a whole new thread for this....

aside from plunket, who can do car-seat checks? And baby on the move (thanks Kalimirella) as there is not one locally. We don't have any of the big baby stores, actually - just pumpkin patch and farmers. We have a VTNZ though - do they check?

just goes to show how unedeucated some plunket nurse are when it comes to carseats. I woul have said that 12 months is the bare minimum that they should be turned t it does not mean you have to turn them then.

I have my sons plunket appointmet when is about 14/15 months be interesting to see if they bring up the carseat thing then. Yeah Bowie I recommend doing it yourself took my carseat to Plunket to get them to put it back in after our warrant just after DD turned one, and they put it in forward facing even though I said we were going to keep her rear facing - the lady even said "they should be forward facing once they turn one"

Plunket tried to tell me my carseat didn't even exist in NZ (I have a brio zento)!! The baby on the move people said that if anyone argues with me, have their phone number on hand & the seat manual .

I have mine attached to the leg of the front seat, like you, and I feel comfortable with it tethered rather than not tethered.
I will be carrying the manual around in the car now though, just incase anyone picks me up on it!
And I agree, you should install it as the manual says, don't worry about plunket.

I would go with what the manufacturer has said too - especially since the Radian is so new in NZ, I doubt many Plunket people know much about it.

I would be following the manual and what it says re installation and what Trex said. Hmmmm... We have the radian installed like that and it seems perfectly safe.

Being a bit peeved off by Plunket recently I'm inclined to say they're a bit uptight but if it's true and you can get fined for it or you feel it's unsafe it might be worth investigating.
