I've had infections in both my c/s wounds and then again in my gall bladder surgery sites. Possibly from overdoing things? Anyway, I ended up seeing my gp who was fantastic.

(luckily I really like my GP) Remember your MW is medically trained, but they aren't a Dr. (besides that it wouldn't be the first story I've heard of a dismissive MW post C-section, their pay gets cut if you end up CS)
You're your best advocate, if you know something is wrong make sure someone notices.

She put me on to Medihoney which you can buy in pharmacies, it's medical grade manuka honey and I've checked it out with midwives wh osaid it used to be standard to use honey in gynae wards... but anyways try putting that on the wound (you can use it on any wound unless you can't see the bottom of it *shudder*) and putting gauze on the top of it, most important thing is to allow it to breathe so make sure you have cotton underwear (parachute pants are best hehe!!).

Saltwater, breastmilk and sterile wipes from your MW are best for cleaning it.

Luck luck luck!!

TBH it was much more comfortable having a soft folded pad against the wound than it was to have skin rubbing together or even waistbands slipping down and digging in!

Hope that helps!

    Author: SupaMama
Subject: 37297
Posted: 02 January 2011 at 10:09pm

I had an emergency C-section after 29 hours of labour 2 weeks ago. I stayed in hospital for 5 days and developed an infection which was treated with antibiotics. Since being at home it has got heaps worse and I had to go back to hospital for IV antibiotics. The wound is weeping and pussy and really sore. It still ahs not closed up. It is causing me heaps of stress and I am worried that I will have to go back to hospital again. My main fear is that it will affect my fertility ( I want to have more kids) I am now on more antibiotics ( which make my son throw up after BFing) but the wound is still gross.

Did anyone else experience this? What happened?

I have found it hard to chase up my MW and the nurse who came to my house said there was no infection! It wasn't until I asked my MW to call the hospital and insist that they see me.

Any other experiences/advice would be appreciated, Thanks!
