Author: kiwisj
Subject: 37349
Posted: 07 January 2011 at 1:51pm

We took C's favourite soft toy, and then a wee bag with a zip with lots of random things like a small tin, some keys, little cars, rattley balls etc to keep him interested. His favourite thing on our last trip (18m) was a wee drawing thing that they gave him on the plane. You could draw with your finger or the "pen" and then lift the plastic to erase. C thought it was magic!

The baby baby food tends to be purees, but they do have them on hand. Take any finger food type snacks that your baby is into, there are no restrictions at all on what you can take OUT of NZ foodwise (unless you're traveling to Australia, but you're not) so you can take what you like/need without worrying. I found those squeezey puree packs quite good as I just squeezed a bit at a time onto a spoon and when DS was older he could just hold it and suck away himself!

SIA is AMAZING with babies and young kids, they will make a big fuss and as someone else has said they are super accommodating when it comes to meals, holding the baby so you can eat/go to the loo etc etc.
We had some finger puppets, hand puppet, a new book, just busy kind of toys (but not too noisy!!). I tried to fit them all into an ice cream container so could keep them all together and not have too much. And a couple of old school flat nappies which serve all sorts of purposes. Def take lots of snacks - breadsticks, crackers, jars of baby food, jelly pots etc as you never know how many babies will be on the flight so they may run out. The Asian airlines do tend to have some great cracker type snacks and there is generally always yoghurt available too. You will need extra food at the airports and when you arrive anyway :)

They are great with snacks and drinks too, in general not just for kids. i have always found singapore very accommodating. Also a fantastic airport!!! We had a blast at changi - check out the website before you go. We went to the swimming pool for a cool down (only $13 and you get a shower with shampoo and everything, and a drink), the butterfly garden, the playgrounds...it only takes a couple of minutes on the train between terminals, and it's all so beautiful and clean.
toys...my little one was an absolute angel and slept the whole way! otherwise she watched the tv. but i guess at 8months yours wont be so keen on watching the tv...? I bought little things like a doll, mini wire puzzle (you know those things with the balls that you push around the wire), books, colouring, a thing that you tip upside down and the glitter and gel inside move about, and i wrapped them all up separately, so whenever she got bored she got to unwrap a present and it was all exciting for her again.
