Just a pointer - if they are orthodox christians, they may not like symbol things like that. ie: the koru symbolising new life.

You read my mind astral (must be the monkeything!! ). I was thinking of one of the double twists like that!! I got one for bestest friend for her wedding and it sits pride and place in the lounge.

I had planned to get one of these for a recent wedding gift (wedding has been postponed) -

The ones I saw had more striking colours, and I was going to get a double twist which represents two lives coming together and is a symbol for life, love and eternity.

When my parents got married, and I can't remember if it was for the wedding or engagement, someone gave them this big green ceramic dolphin. Mum never particularly liked it, but it's survived over 8 moves, 4 children (plus now one grandchild), 6 pets (not counting fish), and over 30 years of marriage and still sits in their lounge as a testament to the strength of their marriage and a reminder of how far they've come together.

Whatever you get, make sure it is decent quality - a wedding present should last!

weeheebaby - i LOVE the idea of couples bible , i know that her (and her fiance) are orthodox christians and altho i personaly dont know too much about it i do think this is definatly something she would love and apreciate . Shannon- the candles a great idea too , and the photo frame bun-in -the-oven, and thanks for the link Mumafreckle - i was thinking somehting "kiwi" would be nice as she is originally from nz .

Do you have a Mana Christian bookshop where you live?
The one here dose personalised candles they are quite a big size have names dates and a verse with ribbons etc. they are really nice.
We had one for our wedding for the ceromony but people always comment on it when they visit.
Ill find a photo and post it. when we go to a wedding we often give beautiful wooden photo frames.. always a nice gift to recieve for once they have some wedding photos printed...

wow awesome ideas and i only wrote the post half an hour ago!!! thanks ladies . Yes muppetsmumma , i do mean Christian . those are fantastic ideas . And those wine glasses are an awesome idea and as shes orginally a kiwi ( shes been living in ausie for about 8 years now ) it would be quite nice to get her soemthing with a kiwi edge to it . Im not actually sure if shes going ona honeymoon Linzy ( i havent actually asked her yet ) but might just ask her and see where shes going , thought i might have a chat with her parents and see if they have any ideas .

Depending on if they drink alcohol - one of the presents I loved the most from our wedding was a pair of lovely wine glasses from a shop out in Kumeu, Auckland.

They came in a gorgeous wooden box with hay around them and I'm sure they would ship overseas. They also do personalised wine glasses which I've often thought about doing for gifts.

When you say religious, do you mean Christian? If so, I suggest a lovely plaque or something for their wall. We are christians and that is what I would get them in your situation.
I did a bit of searching for you, as I know if you do not share their faith it can be hard to know what to get. Try these things, or if you don't think they are their style, have a look on those websites. They are Aussie websites so will cost you less in postage.

If they are only just setting up there house there are heaps of things you could buy them.

Things that would make there house more homely. Its one of my oldest dearest friends weddings at the end of the month and i am looking for the perfect gift . She lives in Brisbane and will be getting married in Brisabne but unfortunatly due to family/work comitments and lack of funds i am unable to travel over  for the big day (something i feel very guilty about but she understands) Anyway i am looking for the perfect gift on a small budget to send over but i really have no idea , I have never met her fiance altho i know hes a teacher . Shes very traditional and quite religous (they will only start living together after the wedding ) so i dont want anything too "out there " . i have a debit card so i can buy something online or something from here and send it over . I have a limit of nzd $100ish . Any ideas ????

Only thing iv come up with so far is a resturaunt voucher for a fancy resturant in brisabne but thats only an idea , thought id see if you ladies can come up with anything to beat that
