Definitely elevate the head of the bed if you can, it helped DS who again had chronic ear infections until we got grommets a few months ago.

Try a vapouriser or eucalyptis oil, as that helps to clear out the passages which allows the fluid to drain and stops it from becoming glue ear.

We found with antibiotics things normally got better within a couple of nights, but we used both pamol and nurofen when he had ear infections.

And make sure you go back to check the ears are clear and not gunky afterwards. If you have a wriggler/crawler, you could put a pillow under the top part of the mattress. That way if he sleeps at the bottom of the bed, the worse case scenario is he'll be flat rather than head-down.

Should take a couple of days to settle, at least enough to get some sleep. In that time I wouldn't worry about bringing him into bed with you and then move him back out as soon as he's better. Tipping the cot helps, but only until baby is mobile enough to turn around and sleep downhill!! Not sure how much of a wriggler you have, but we eventually had to give up on it which was a shame because it did help.

For us, the problem didn't let up until we finally got grommets after 6 months of screaming

We had her in our bed for about 6 weeks when she and I were both sick and I didn't have the energy to get up to her. We still tried to give her day sleeps in the cot (if we got a daysleep, sigh), and then one night we just decided it was back in the cot time and she was surprisingly ok with it. I still co-sleep on occasion when she's miserable, but it's not been a big deal to go back to her cot. DS is a little younger, but have you tried tipping his cot? Thats what we always do, and what they done for him while in hospital. Also try to lie him so his face is straight up, instead of facing to one side or another, if his head is tilted the fluid builds up and hurts (or something, my bro has had chronic ear infections his whole life and could tell me lol). If it's real bad, have you tried sleeping in a lazy boy or something with him? We also done that in hospital when he got real bad. Keeping him upright will be more comfortable cos it won't put pressure on his ears

You can give nurofen and pamol together, so try staggering them (also what was suggested at hospital) and DEFINITELY keep on top of the pain relief, at least for a few days.

I'd say give him a week, if showing no signs of improving then, take him back to the doctor. Although in that time if you think he's worse don't hesitate to go back.

So my 11 month old DS had the worst night of his (and my) life on Sunday night. Was up most of the night and nothing would console him! Not even boobie. Ended up at A & E at 2am, who said his ear looked "a little red", gave him nurofen and sent us on our way. Needless to say, we had two more shocking nights, so I took him to the Dr yesterday said BOTH ears now had fluid and prescribed antibiotics.

Last night we had another BAD night, with DS being awake from 2 - 4am, amongst other wakings where he went straight back to sleep.

I have been taking him into bed with me because it is easier on me, and he seems to need the comfort.

Anyway, my question is: if your bubba has had one of these infections, how long before their sleeping settled down? And if you took them into bed with you, did you find it hard to get them back into their own beds again??
