Author: cuppatea
Subject: 37664
Posted: 25 January 2011 at 1:48pm

It doesn't need to be stressful though, you don't need to check every packet everytime you go shopping, you just learn what is ok and what is not and keep to buying the things you know are ok and then you only need to check the new things you think look appealing.

Weetbix, porridge or toast is all the kids ever have, or sometimes they want my puffed millet but I don't like to share that as it's a bit expensive and the only gluten free thing I have to eat in the morning. I chuck a few sultanas in with the porridge or cut up some banana sometimes but mostly they just eat it plain and they've never complained cos they don't know any different. Lots of the cereals, even the porridge sachets, that have dried fruit etc are full of other crap so we avoid them.

My label checking is easy, first I quickly scan the ingredients and if there are any numbers in there they go back on the shelf, cos as far as I'm concerned numbers aren't food. So that rules out pretty much 98% of the supermarket. If there are no numbers then I have to check for nuts, and then I check the other ingredients, so probably only 0.2% of what a supermarket sells would ever make it into my trolley. So much easier when I go to the organic shop!
