I have roman (black out) blinds with a sunfilter thingy, its a pain in the butt because every time you raise them, the sun filter gets all scrunched up. I made my curtains, they are romans & I used heavy block out fabric. It is really dark in there.

I'll take a photo for you to see the light that does come in. You can get that stuff that you put on to windows to make them frosted......don't know where to look for it tho. I wanted wooden ones but the thought of cleaning them put me off. We have thermal ones which are great in winter & I can not stand light in the kids rooms as they will get up too early. hmmm i hadnt thought of romans not blocking out light.

what i really wanted was these really cool wooden shutters that sat within the window that i saw at the home show... but they would be way out of budget.

something i want to do is get some plain boring curtains (like plain calico type ones) and let DS paint them (obviously when he is a bit older) but if they get to paint on them before they get hung - maybe they wont trash them again because they 'made' them?

You mean how when you have wooden blinds they sit within the frame nannyabbey? Huh. That could potentially work because you'd probably draw the nets for privacy when needed, otherwise you'd have a more traditional framed window look (the way they have big curtainy bunches at the top of the window and then the curtains hanging down the side).

My roman blinds cut out heaps of light. I lined them with blackout fabric and it works great. The one thing about roman blinds Bizzy is that they don't cut out anywhere near as much light as curtains (which may not be a problem for you of course!) and I'm afraid that they might look completely weird with nets. I wonder if you can somehow double-layer blinds, so that you have a curtainy blind, and one behind it which is a bit organza-like (sp?).

Ok so the boys have trashed the curtains in the room they have... admittedly they are plain brown and not my taste anyway. So i am thinking about what i can have in there instead. I like the idea of roman blinds, but was wondering if you can put them with nets or would that look silly? I dont mind if we dont have nets, i had none in my last place except in the bedrooms that faced the road. But one of the windows in the boys room faces out to the driveway and the neighbours place and i dont think she would want to see my lot naked!
