I am one of the founders of Mama-Licious (www.mamalicious.co.nz) and we encourage all the dads to attend antenatal breastfeeding classes with their partners! You guys are right, the dads won't be DOING the feeding, but they will be SUPPORTING you while you are feeding and this is a hugely important role! By coming along to the classes they get to hear all the same information that you do, and that means there are TWO brains to remember the tips and tricks once baby arrives! We have lots of fun in our classes and really value the input from the dads. One thing I noticed was it was quite unusual to go to any sort of pregnancy/parenting/etc class alone, everyone seemed to have a support person of some sort, but that was just my observation!

I walked past the PN one recently and there were a lot of guys there. Probably 50%+ of the women had their partner with them. It's only about 30-60 mins so I wouldn't think it would be too awkward for them. I didn't do classes, but if I did, I'd def take DP along so he has a better understanding of the whole thing. Hi girls,

I'm starting breastfeeding classes at Kenepuru hospital (Wellington) this week and I'm not sure if my husband should come along.

The brochure says partners are welcome, but do they normally attend? I don't want to be the only one without a partner there, but then I don't want to drag my husband along only to find half the people there don't have partners with them.

I definitely think it would be useful if he came, if only because his memory is a lot better than mine at the moment.
