DS was 3 weeks and DD will probably be the same. It's funny this issue of moving babes to their own rooms, cos i don't know of any babies that have ever had an issue with it. None of my baby group have, none of my friends etc.

I think the issue is in us mummies heads! We were 2 weeks old here too, we kept waking each other up (I would think she was awake with all the noise she made, and then get her up to feed her, and then she WAS awake!). Thanks for the replies everyone.

I would love to 'side-car' but that would mean that we wouldn't actually be able to get in or out of the bedroom anymore.

I have just put DS down in his new bedroom now, for his first sleep....and he has gone straight down!! No dramas at all. He is in his bassinet inside the cot, but for the next sleep I will put him straight into the cot. I feel a bit bad that he is still in the bassinet as, he is having to sleep with his legs bent and everytime he stretches out they hit the end.

We'll see how he goes tonight. My girls have been in their own room since we came home from hospital (they were 4.5 weeks old, so 38w gestational age when they came home). They were in bassinets until about 4-5 months and then in their cots. I could always hear them if they needed me, but didn't hear the snuffles and grunts and snores (man babies are noisy sleepers!!). DD is still in our room, we 'side car' (although DH left the rail on the cot when he put it in our room so it has a rail between us (prob a good idea now that shes crawling))
We are looking to move her into her room next week when we get back from our weekend away.

We have a smallish bassinette so all the girls have been in a cot, in their own room at about 6 weeks.

DS went into his cot in his own room at just past 2 months. He wasn't sleeping through at that stage but only waking once.
To be honest he slept much better in his own room after that transition, as did both DH and I. For the night feed I would either bring him back to our bed and put him back in the cot when he was done, or feed him in the lounge with really low lighting and no noise.
I think basically if you don't have any of the SIDS risk factors there is probably little to worry about, but we found a monitor good for peace of mind. What is side car?

I did know about the 6 month SID recommendation but wondered what it related to. Ah well in our case they could hear each other, he,he (and we have Angelcare monitors.)

just to throw a cat among the pigeons, the new cot death (SIDI) regulations state the baby should be in the room until 6 months old, which seems really excessive I know. Just got taught this at the Neonatal Unit before we took our baby home as she was very prem. Its something to do with hearing other adult sleeping noises (snores, farts and the like haha) and that keeping them breathing properly. but that doesn't explain day naps when they are away from everyone so who knows!
I really don't know how we are going to manage that, as I suspect she will be out of her bassinette by then too. DD went into her carriboo bassinet in her cot at 1week we only co slept that first week because DP wanted to. Put a angel care monitor in at 6weeks because she was a tummy sleeper and I just wanted that reassurance and she started sleeping 6-7hrs easy. Our girls went into their own room, with their bassinet basket inside the cots at 10 wks (6 wks after we brought them home). DH kept waking up to every little noise they made and then waking me cos he was worried, he,he
So was better for everyone when they were a bit further away. (We have monitors).

I had them sleeping in hammocks in the lounge for day sleeps until they were 5 months cos they were such bad day sleepers. Otherwise I would have spent most of the day in their room trying to get them to sleep!

DS went into his own room at 8 weeks, two nights in the bassinet and then into the cot and he seemed to love it and from that first night in his room he started sleeping through the night.

His room is right across the hall from ours and we had the monitor on for the first few nights but if he woke we could hear him just fine so didn't need it through the night after that.

DD has been in her cot in her own room since she came home from hospital her room is right next to ours and the walls are paper thin.
The doesn't know any different and has been fine from the beginning. We've never co-slept too exhausted in the beginning and she's never slept in our bed only feeds and plays.

I have a chair / single bed in her room which I sit on to feed her in the middle of the night its not the most comfy she only takes 10-20 mins max.

Thanks, I feel so much better now. His room is adjacent to ours, so he will only be about 2 or 3 metres away.
I think he will probably sleep better without being so squashed in the bassinet.
I'll try him for his day sleeps tomorrow, and then if they go well, he can sleep there tomorrow night too.

DS1 went in to own room day2 at home cos i couldn't sleep with all his noises.

DS2 liked to sleep with me and so went into his own room at about a month old. That was the soonest i could do it.

I always sleep better without them in the room. Both boys never seemed to even notice or care tbh (although i felt a bit sad for one night). DS went in when he was 9 weeks old and he started sleeping through as soon as we did it!!! His room was right next to ours so we could hear if he woke up etc. I think we were also waking him at night with our noise (my DH snores too Lil_nic!!!) Our DD went into her own room at around 4 weeks after co-sleeping, she adjusted fine. DD was 11 weeks old when she went in, simply because she was getting too big for her bassinet. I was really nervous about it, DP wasn't. Turns out she slept better in her own room by herself than with us! Guess it was DPs snoring...

You could test day sleeps first?

We put our DD into her own room at around 3 months, basically when she pretty much started sleeping through - but the room is right next to ours so it was really only a few more metres away. We had a hanging bassinet that we hung in her cot initially, then around 4 months she got too big so she went into her cot.

I was totally paranoid the first few nights and went to check on her practically every hour (we never used a monitor) but she was fine. Boy went into his own room on day 5 LOL but he had a hammock for the first few months. I don't think I could have put him in a cot in his own room that young.

My DD went into her cot in her own room umm, around 3 or 4 months. Her room though is right across the corridor from ours so I used to leave the door open so she'd be able to hear us a little bit. We also had a movement and sound monitor to reassure me. But she didn't even notice the difference (I think I was slightly disappointed she didn't even notice we were gone). I suspect some babies cope with it better than others but maybe pop him in the bassinet in the cot for day sleeps for a few days then try night time? With DS1 we co-slept until he was 18 months. With DS2 I decided that I didn't want to co-sleep unless we needed to. As it turns out he is a great sleeper and we have him in a bassinet in our room which has been working well.
But he is a BIG baby and is too long for his bassinet, and is going to have to move into his cot.
But our bedroom is too small to fit the cot in. So he is going to have to go to his own room, which I feel nervous about.
