LOVE it! House smells much nicer, much warmer during winter days (from warmed air in roof), and instead of having our heater on for 5 hours in the winter nights, we would find the house warm within maybe 15 mins of turning the heater on. Our gas bill (only used for heating) was massively reduced (used about 1/4 what we had the previous year).

The cooling on summer nights is divine!!!! We slept really well this year - under the duvet still most nights as well.

Having the house be drier was huge for us as I have asthma, and damp & mould both set it off. No more mould on the ceilings here, no wet windows, damp walls or carpet. Would never be without the HRV now!

We were told that log fires that have the flue go through the roof space work well with HRV's, as the warm flue heats the air in the roof space, which then pumps through the house.

They are commission-based. Also the HRV advertising specifically states that they are not for heating, just air-circulating.

We had one at our last place. It didn't improve the sale value by that much, I don't think. But I did enjoy it while we were there. It reduced how much we needed to use the heater - basically extended the warm months and shortened winter. But on cold, rainy days we definitely still needed to put the heater on.

It is rather expensive though
ETA: See this - there is mention at the bottom of suggestive additional heating.

Edited by busymum

But I find it's still cold and I need a heater in winter, but we probably stopped using one earlier than usual and maybe started later - and put it on later in the evening? But it's not like having a heat pump, which is kind of what I was thinking.

Plus the extra bonus is lack of hot sticky nights. It's still hot during the day but I don't find we have those horrible hot restless nights. I think I've had only one like that so far this summer.

Edited by chelle
