we also put a matress beside a single bedfor emily at 10 months she only fell out once we just hadto lift her in she figured out pretty quickly how to climb down safely. I have a home made saftey sleep although it is pink if you want to try

My son climbed out at 14 months. I found him holding onto the outside of the cot holding on with his arms and feet because the drop was a bit further than he thought. He had blisters the size of $2 coins on the tops of his feet from gripping the bars. We put him in a bed with a side rail after that. We did have to lock his bedroom door with every sleep as he would get out and try and come down. I was a baby that did this... Would flip over the cot to get out, my mum ended up putting a rocking chair next to the cot that I'd flip into then climb out of...

If you want to try a safety sleep with him lying on his side I have a home made one that I bought off Trade Me ages ago.  I'm happy to send it to you - I was just going to find another home for it anyway.  Sorry I don't have any great suggestions - neither of my two have been particularly interested in climbing so I don't have any experience to draw on!

If you really wanna keep him in a cot could you make like a cover for the cot, to go overtop so he can't climb out. Like using some kinda netting fabric like net curtains? Re safety sleep my DD is a side sleeper and we use a safety sleep. I would put him in a low line single bed or a toddler bed and have a safety bar on it. If he falls from there its a much less fall then falling from a cot where you have to go up before you go down. I also suggest the mattress on the ground below if your concerned about the fall.

He will fall out of a single bed much easier than a cot. Babies are pretty smart and if he does fall out then will quickly learn that it hurts and either will stop doing it, or learn how to get out without falling. Hi Everyone

Our DS is nealy 10 months old and he is quite tall, his cot is on the lowest level but he trys to hand his head and shoulders over the bars to fall out, im quite worried that this could happen as it looks like it could, before i lowered the cot down he managed to do the same thing and luckily i was right there to catch him thankgod.
