Your midwife would be able to recommend an OB. Where abouts in the country are you?

If in Christchurch/Canterbury, I would totally recommend Richard Dover at the Oxford Clinic. He did my first c-section, and compared to my second it was brilliant - very little pain afterwards and no problems healing, and he was great!! I had a '*suprise' viginal breech birth with my 1st, & to be completely honest, it was WAY easier & less painful than with my 2nd who was head 1st!

*Everyone (2 midwives,ob,& a trainee ob/gyno!) who had felt my belly told me that she was head down, & with her being my 1st i just believed them, altho if id listened 2 myself i think i knew sumthing didnt feel rite. Anyway we didnt find out until my midwife told me to stop pushing cos she cud see feet!!!! i was like WTF!!! how do i stop pushing?lol
but all was gud & like i said, it was easier than my head1st birth with Jasmine. would fully birth a breech naturally again if needed.

Nicci - just want to say how wonderful for you to have a supportive midwife for your *possible* breech birth. 34 weeks is still very early to assume this is how baby will present during birth....so you have time on your side to allow for baby to flip.
I'm sure you have also read up on the variety of positions you can assume to encourage baby to flip.

I think my mw said if bub was bum first (rather than kneeling or feet first) then I could have birthed him naturally. Thanks everyone, my LMC is supportive of this approach and has successfully achieved a few in the past. I'm off for a scan on the 14th to check bubba's position and his size, cord placement etc to see whether this is even an option.

I will look up that Ina Mays guide to childbirth up and have a read.

I had a completely natural VB with DS, so I'm not too interested in the epidural this time around. But I did find it most comfortable to be on the bed with the head end up last time. Standing was difficult.

Bubba position is head up and spine on my right hand side. My cousin had an easy vaginal breech delivery. I would recommend you read Ina Mays guide to childbirth. She has some details of natural breech deliveries.

I think if you have had a previous successful vaginal delivery, it increases your chance of having a successful breech delivery. Also, if the baby isn't too large (I think less than 8lbs?) that also make it more likely to go well.

The position you deliver in is very important - a supported squat position is recommended. So you would not really be able to have an epidural, or you wouldn't be able to get into a good position.

Good luck - there are increased risks, but it is definitely do-able in the right circumstances. My CBE had a breech vaginal delivery for her first baby. Apparently although there are increased risks from a breech vaginal delivery, they are no higher than the increased risks from a caesarean, but I don't know her source for that. Good luck! Haven't heard of anyone doing this, I think the term breech freaks a few people out and so opt straight away for a c-section. What type of breech position is bubs in?
